Five Quick Q’s with…Andrew Ian Dodge
ANDREW IAN DODGE of GROWING OLD DISGRACEFULLY and also a keen music reviewer and blogger…
1. What are you currently up to? (e.g. recording, gigs etc.)
We are releasing a 2-song EP in the next month or so called: Growing Old Disgracefully Presents: Andrew Ian Dodge & Kim Benson Wedding EP
Kim’s Myspace site http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=207379943
is getting lots of hits and more importantly listens. She is getting some interest from the West Coast of the US as well. Her laid back “New Moon Woman” seems to have struck a cord.
We got a guy in Maine in the US remixing our new songs for the EP. He seems to have the right “ear” and has done an awesome job with my song. We can’t wait to see how he tweaks Kim’s voice. I hope to get him some of our other stuff to have a go with.
2. What have been the best five gigs you have been to or involved in?
Die So Fluid is the only gig I have been due to being under a course of chemo to make sure my colon cancer is all gone.
3. Any recent music/books/films you would recommend? Read my column on Blogcritics.com to see my recommendations http://blogcritics.org/writer/marty_dodge
There is a lot of good stuff coming out right now for all tastes.
4. Your views on the current music scene – live and recorded – and has the CD had its day in the age of downloads? CDs are not dead as we encountered with our first release. Some people still love to hold a piece of something of their favourite band so they can read the liner notes. I do note that bands are now doing their best to give more value for your CD money. I am still frustrated with the lack of profile in the UK for bands like Glyder, The Answer et al. There are great rock bands out there but Jonathan Ross & Jools still seem to find all that is shite with the UK scene.
5. Message for your fans… G.o.D. is going through some changes over the next few months. There are lots of things going on in all the members of band’s lives (children, cancer, marriage et al). We shall see how it all ends up in the end but rest assured that we will be doing music. I could not let the voice I am married to not be given the airing it deserves.
