Two by-elections this month…
Following on from Labour finishing fifth in the recent Henley by-election (behind the Greens and the BNP), a safe Tory seat but even so their vote collapsed, PM Gordon Brown now faces another by-election on 24th July after resignation of Glasgow East MP David Marshall due to ill health. A safe Labour seat with a 13,507 majority but following defeat at the Crewe & Nantwich by-election they could possibly lose this seat to the SNP.
But before that we have David Davis and his 42 day campaign by-election in Haltemprice and Howden on 10th July. There are twenty six candidates standing although no Lib Dem or Labour candidates. Of these candidates rape campaigner Jill Saward could possibly give Davis some competition and former TV presenter turned conspiracy theorist David Icke is also standing in this by-election.
