Stoke City 1-2 Liverpool (Carling Cup)

After Kenwyne Jones scored the first goal just on the end of the first half, Liverpool outplayed us in the second half to make the quarter finals. Slight break for us now as we don’t play Newcastle Utd until Monday.

Sad news for Mama Sidibe who was injured at a reserve game – a real blow as he was just coming back from a long lay-off through injury. Hope he is back soon.

  1. I think I’ve commented on your blog before. From what I saw, Liverpool mostly outplayed Stoke before and after Jones’ goal? Stoke were back to the one-trick wonders again, with only Delap’s throw-ins as a tactic ?

Still, last night Stoke had 4 shots at goal, one more than the league game earlier this season.

You can’t argue with 7 shots (2 goals) versus Liverpool’s 36 shots (2 goals) though.

Are you guys really happy with Pulis – the football week-in, week-out must be so awful to watch ?

  2. How can we not like Pulis? Under him we have had:
    Promotion to the Premier League
    Europa League football
    Our first FA Cup final
Players that would grace any first XI like Crouch, Begovic, Sorenson, Etherington, Shawcross, Huth

Yes the Carling Cup game was not us at our best but we have more to us now than Delap’s long throws…

    • Hmmm – I’ve listened to journalists who say things like “the fans won’t stand for this brand of football”, when talking about all sorts of teams, and I’ve always said that fans don’t give a monkeys about the style of football – it’s all down to results. I think this pretty much proves it.

The six players you listed would not grace the first XIs of the Mancs, Manc City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs or even, dare I say it, no, I’d better not.
