Gibraltar in the European Championship qualifiers

I’ve decided to adopt Gibraltar as my other national team (to join Scotland – I blame my dad for that!) as they have just been accepted into UEFA and have the smallest population of any of the UEFA nations – 30,000. They also featured former Stoke City, Derby County and Southampton player Danny Higginbotham who is now heading to a coaching role with the team. Other notable players include Wrexham defender David Artell and the only player in a top flight team, Liam Walker at Israeli club Bnei Yehuda.

They are currently ranked 55 of 58 in the European rankings – above Vatican City!

To date they have played three international friendlies a goaless draw with Slovenia and then two defeats – Faroe Islands (lost 4-1) and Estonia (2-0). They face Estonia again on May 26th in a friendly and their European qualification group is Poland, Germany, Republic of Ireland, Georgia and Scotland 🙂

This time the top two clubs qualify so it will be Scotland and then Gibraltar 😉
