What is wrong with Stoke City?

After last night’s woeful 3-0 defeat at home to Wigan you do wonder is the whole club messed up? We were promised lessons were learnt following relegation last season err no as we still have players scared of their shadows and low on confidence.

Gary Rowett said it wasn’t good enough in his post-match interview, however five of his eight new signings to date played last night and Ashley Williams managed to get himself sent off. Tom Ince launched a scathing attack on fellow players – good to see some passion but why is none of it on the pitch?

Four games into the season, two wins this year in league games and some of our most expensive signings like Imbula are reduced to training with the U23’s. I know it takes time to turn around a failing team but does Rowett have the skills and answers to do this? Telegraph journalist John Percy said in his match report there was a player who walked back to the dressing room after refusing to complete a full training session. Are the club too soft? Get that player fined and get that battling, one for all team mentality back that we had under Pulis (not that I’d advocate bringing him back!) and even Paul Lambert was trying to resolve the player malaise that seems to exist at the club at present.

Stoke need to act now as past form has shown with other newly relegated clubs like Sunderland, Blackpool and Portsmouth, you can easily slip straight down to League 1.

For the Hull game drop the underperformers (well the worst of them) like Pieters, Shawcross, McClean and give Harry Souttar a start along with Bojan. Heck even give Geoff Cameron a start ahead of Shawcross as although has ben told he can leave the club he doesn’t seem set to leave anytime soon. The legacy left by Mark Hughes (ask any QPR fan and the mess they are in is largely down to Hughes’s time at that club) and the poor transfer dealings of Cartwright & Scholes is really hitting home, coupled with too many players not giving their best.
