Doctor Who is back in style

The new series of Doctor Who aired last night, entitled ‘The Woman Who Fell To Earth’ (a David Bowie reference perhaps?), saw the first female Doctor in the series fifty year history, played by Jodie Whittaker. Chris Chibnall is the new executive producer taking over from Steven Moffatt. Chibnall produced the excellent Broadchurch which starred Jodie Whittaker, plus he has been involved in Doctor Who and spin-off Torchwood in the past

The new Doctor is ably supported by three assistants including all round entertainer Bradley Walsh (fellow comic Lee Mack guests in a later episode).  I am not going to give spoilers, save to say this episode features drama, loss, thrills and a scary monster (it collects a tooth from each of its victims – nice). Jodie Whittaker looks set to take Doctor Who into new realms and more importantly, being back lapsed fans like me. I stopped watching after Matt Smith, although I did enjoy Peter Capaldi’s swansong on the 2017 Christmas special, however I am hooked again and eagerly await the next episode…
