Didcot Town v Bromsgrove Sporting this Saturday 30 March 3PM KO

Posted in Didcot, Didcot Town FC, Football, News, non league footnball with tags , , , on March 29, 2019 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Tough home game against Bromsgrove Sporting, who currently lie in second spot, 20pts ahead of Didcot who are currently fourth in a play-off spot. Last week’s 5-1 drubbing away at Berkhampstead means Didcot need to bounce back. Bromsgrove have won their last eight games, with only one defeat in twelve games, a 3-2 defeat away at Dunstable Town.

One to watch is their striker Jason Cowley who scored last week against Corby Town and it even made the BBC.

Should be a bumper crowd as well with Bromsgrove Sporting averaging 938 for a home game. Come along and support non-league football 🙂

Big weekend for Didcot Town

Posted in Didcot, Didcot Town FC, Football, non league footnball with tags , , , , , , on March 21, 2019 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Didcot Town face an away trip to Berkhampstead, who could still sneak into the play-offs, then a tough home fixture against current league leaders Bromsgrove Sporting (they have won seven on the trot to date) on Saturday March 30th.

It was a blustery day when Barcelos scored a deserved equaliser for Didcot against Peterborough Sports, who are currently second in the table (Didcot remain fourth and in a play-off spot). I have to say I enjoyed seeing that goal and felt the same football fan rush I get when see Stoke score (which is a rarity at the moment…).

I would urge you to get along to watch your local non-league team as you are right by the action and the standard of football is better than many think.

Great news in that Taylor Wimpey’s proposed development of 903 dwellings south of Didcot has been withdrawn by the developer ahead of any planning decision.

Match of the Week – Bromsgrove Sporting v Didcot Town

Posted in Didcot, Didcot Town FC, Football, Match of the Week, non league footnball, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , on November 30, 2018 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Last week’s match saw Fulham beat Southampton 3-2 as the Mark Hughes magic touch continues to work at Southampton 🙂

Stoke beat Derby County at home on Wednesday 2-1 despite Etebo being sent off in the first half. Goals from Clucus and Ince sealed the win for us. Reading away this Saturday afternoon, who despite their low placing in the table have only lost one of their last five home games.

Match of the week this week is Didcot Town who have now had four wins on the trot, including a late winner in a 4-3 win over Bedford Town on Tuesday night. That win move them up to fifth and into the play-off zone, when just over a fortnight again they were fourth from bottom, albeit with games in hand. Saturday sees the Diddy away at second placed Bromsgrove Sporting. They have yet to drop any points at home this season, so a very tough game for Didcot. They are a relatively new club having only formed in 2010, with an impressive average attendance of over750. Tough game for both teams and will go for 2-2.

Didcot Town add two new players

Didcot Town have added to last month’s loan signing of Oxford Utd striker Brandon Taverner, adding Greg Hackett from Ardley United, who has scored sixteen goals in sixteen games (Benik Afobe take note!!!), and winger John Dennis from Reading City. All three will provide much needed cover and competition for places, plus hopefully a few goals between them!

Next up is Dunstable Town at home in the league this Saturday 3PM KO.

More hedgerow disappears in Didcot…

Posted in Didcot, Family life, News with tags , , , , , , on November 7, 2018 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Taylor Wimpey destroying more hedgerow. During the past couple of years since moving here it has been host to lots of birdlife including sparrows, starlings, wood pigeons, robin, dunnock, wren, blue & coal tits and magpies. The wood pigeons and magpies did nest here and in a nearby tree, also removed by the developers.

There is still a little bit of hedgerow left, although not much cover left for the smaller birds and nesting sites hasve gone. Having a bit of hedgerow at the bottom of a new home should be a good selling point? I guess it doesn’t fit the neat new home plots they wish to create, which makes a mockery of their supposed environmentally focussed development plans.

Only a small piece of hedgerow granted, however it won’t be replaced and it has dispersed local birdlife and wildlife, which is being replicated daily throughout the GWP development. I don’t disagree new homes are needed, however brownfield sites such as the power station and an overall plan as part of the Didcot Garden Town plan should be adhered to, not just greedy developers building and be damned to the consequences on local wildlife and infrastructure.

The current allotment plan you can comment on until this Friday 9th November 2018 by visiting here

It sounds good, new allotments with parking, however as always the devil is in the detail and if approved it will see spoil from elsewhere on GWP used to raise the level of allotments; a busy footpath to West Hagbourne closed (one nearby has been closed since December 2017 until 2020!); high trees planted blocking views of the nearby countryside and increase in flooding risk.
