The music is out there…

I love discovering and listening to new music, be it actual new music or older music that I listen to for the first time. I know many music fans my age or older get very set in their tastes and say nothing new is as good as the older, established bands, however that misses the point a little for me. Yes bands like say the Temperance Movement or Inglorious, to name but two, are nothing new musically yet they take the music they love and give it their own twist. Heck, bands like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple borrowed and were influenced by established artists in their day to create the music that still resonates today.

Just this week I picked up a Richard Hawley CD after reading a rave gig review on GRTR! On Twitter I have been picking up on new music and currently loving Broken Witt Rebels (their new EP is superb!) and the indie rock of Mountain Jam. The joy and thrill of hearing new music and championing the musicians is one of life’s great joys for me and many others.

Go on, listen to at least one new band/musician this week, be they new or old…

DORO announces new single ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’

Posted in Get Ready To Rock!, Heavy metal, metal, Music for 2016 with tags , , , on February 18, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

New single ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’ out 1st April;
Announces DVD

Following her upcoming North American tour, Doro Pesch will be presented with the renowned Metal Goddess award at the Vegas Rocks! Hair Metal Awards 2016 in the USA on May 15th. But before receiving this prestigious award, Doro will release a brand new single ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’ on April 1st via Nuclear Blast. The new single impressively cements exactly why Doro owns her worldwide status as the Queen of Rock and Metal!

With ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’, Doro has created another outstanding power ballad which doesn’t only gleam with a great piano intro, heavy guitars and a fantastic melody; but also with tons of emotion and a chorus which captures your ears and your heart from the word go.

As to be expected for such a special song, Doro has recorded a visually stunning music video for ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’. Filmed in superior locations such as the Renaissance Palace Bückeburg (Lower Saxony, Germany), Doro showcases herself in the video’s production in some incredibly impressive scenes in a way you’ve never seen her before. This is a video not to be missed!

Doro states:
‘Love’s Gone To Hell’ is a magical song, a big anthem – and for myself it’s on the same level as the all-time favourites ‘All We Are’, ‘Love Me In Black’ and ‘Für Immer’.”

‘Love’s Gone To Hell’ will be released digitally on April 1st.

The track delivers a great insight into Doro’s long-anticipated DVD called ‘30 Years DORO – Strong & Proud’, which will be released in June 2016 via Nuclear Blast. The DVD will feature the Doro anniversary shows in Wacken and Düsseldorf, including spectacular tracking shots and pure sonic perfection. Additionally, the DVD will contain a ton of terrific and previously unreleased bonus material.

This year Doro will be touring extensively once again, stay tuned for more details.

After forming the band Warlock, Doro managed to secure a record deal and tour with legends such as Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Scorpions, Megadeth and W.A.S.P. She was the first woman to play at the Monsters Of Rock Festival and became a pioneer for the whole genre. Her solo albums carry on that spirit, not least on her 17th studio album ‘Raise Your Fist’ which was released in 2012. The following year saw the ‘Queen of Rock and Metal’ receive the ‘Legend’ Award at the Metal Hammer ‘Golden Gods’, this was followed by a celebratory show that August at Wacken Open Air in front of 80,000 fans!

Now this band are one of the many delights I have discovered whilst reviewing for GRTR! I was lucky to finally see them in concert last year supporting the talc bothering Power Wolf (another highly recommended band), needless to say they didn’t disappoint. This looks a ‘must have’…

RIP – Lemmy

Growing up as a kid and getting into my lifetime love of rock and metal, Lemmy always seemed pretty darn scary! The facial warts and hair, the gravelly voice and his whole demeanour said ‘Mr Rock N Roll’. As I got older I realised he was a very down to earth person judging by his interviews and actions.

I have always been into the music, more than the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle of drinking and drugs. But I admire Lemmy as he epitomises all that I love about rock – he is an indidvidual, looks after his friends (and fans), loves the music and doesn’t give a damn what trends are.  Plus he was born in my hometown of Stoke-on-Trent (well Burslem)!

Music wise I love Motorhead’s ‘1916’ and ‘Orgasmatron’ albums and a lot of their classic songs. The first song I heard by them was actually the cover they did with Girlschool as Headgirl, their awesome version of the rock ‘n’ roll classic from Johnny Kidd & the Pirates, ‘Please Don’t Touch’.

Motorhead were rock ‘n’ roll as Lemmy often stated in interviews, just very loud rock ‘n’ roll 🙂

“Very basic music – loud, fast, city, raucous, arrogant, paranoid, speed-freak rock n roll. It will be so loud that if we move in next door to you, your lawn will die” – talking about Motorhead’s music, via the BBC.

RIP Lemmy

NEONFLY support GAMMA RAY & release a new video for Highways To Nowhere

Posted in Heavy metal, Melodic rock, Music for 2015, Power metal with tags , , , , , on October 21, 2015 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Neonfly are one of the best new melodic metal bands to appear in the past few years and they are off on tour soon with the masters of melodic power metal Gamma Ray!

Mighty hard driving melodic metal rockers Neonfly are extremely excited to announce the release of their new single and video “Highways to Nowhere”. An instant favourite with crowds this summer on festival main stages across Europe, where Neonfly unveiled their new Aztec inspired stage set and show, which saw the band breathing fire on stage to the rhythm of their steely iron riffs, surrounded by awesome Aztec temple backdrops, risers, silk flame machines, and feathered Aztec warrior crowns.

The video captures the excitement of Neonfly’s thrilling performances and encapsulates where the band are today, musically and stylistically. A hugely entertaining combination of melody, metal, and dark intensity.

Neonfly have announced they are embarking on an 18 date European tour together with metal legends Gamma Ray in November and December 2015.
