Keep Calm and Chill

Posted in Glandular fever, Music for 2016 with tags , , , on January 3, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

I do like compiling a playlist on Spotify 🙂 Like the old C90/60 compilation tapes made at home back in the 80’s. This one is relaxing music  and good for keeping the stress levels down, a key component in coping and dealing with glandular fever. Very much a work in progress this one…

If you only by a few albums this month…

Hard to pick one single ‘must have’ album from the April releases as there are a lot…

Tax The Heat released their debut on Nuclear Blast and it is chock full of catchy blues/hard rocking tunes with a modern edge.

The Dowling Poole return with their second album ‘One Hyde Park’, a delight from start to finish. If you like quirky pop with a message – think XTC, Squeeze, the instant appeal of ELO songs – this is for you.

Left With Pictures new album ‘Afterlife’ took me by surprise, with its sparse, yet melodic arrangements and haunting vocals. Not for everyone but if like me you love  music regardless of its ‘genre’, have a listen.

And finally the new Cheap Trick ‘Bang, Zoom, Crazy…Hello’…the band have continued their fine run of form since 1997’s self-titled album (I still can’t get into their 1992 release ‘Woke Up With A Monster’), with their first new album since 2009. It really does hark back at times to their classic 70’s/early 80’s sound. If you are a fan doubtless you will already have this, if not try this album and then work your way back through their fine back catalogue.

Music for 2016: POWER QUEST are back!

Posted in Get Ready To Rock!, metal, Music for 2016, News, Power metal with tags , , , , , on April 1, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Oh yes one of my favorite bands are back…Power Quest!

The band split-up back in 2013 and founding member Steve Williams was in Eden’s Curse, who he has recently left to start Power Quest off again.

The line-up features Steve Williams joined by three members from the band’s last line-up, namely guitarist Gavin Owen, bass player Paul Finnie and drummer Rich Smith. The two new members are Dan Owen on guitars and Ashley Edison on vocals, who also fronts the rather good Dendera.

The band headline a comeback show at the Underworld, Camden on September 10th.

The Quest must go on!

Music for 2016: GINGERFEET

Rockers Gingerfeet are back with their new song ‘Make Your Stand’ and it also marks their debut music video. This video is out now on the Pepsi Unbox feature.

The band have been around since 2012 and their debut album ‘High and Above’ is well worth a listen.

This new song is more guitar led and heavier than previous songs, yet is still underpinned by the band’s love of a good funky riff. A seriously good tune from Gingerfeet and has the potential to win them over a whole new set of fans.

The band explain the ideas behind the song:

“Make Your Stand is about not accepting defeat. It is written to inspire people to stand up and go for the kill, to never be crestfallen because life is short, we must live on the edge and make the most of it.”
