Berahino wins an award…

The Guardian’s ‘The Fiver’ daily football email bestows an award on one of our players…

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Saido Berahino, for selfless services to the confidence of goalkeepers everywhere. A one-time Tottenham target with an England call-up to his name, the Stoke striker has not scored in 2,187 minutes of football. The good news for Stoke? His £70,000-per-week contract runs until June 2022.

If the wild rumours come to truth and Tony Pulis comes back for his third stint as Stoke manager (unlikely I feel as he burned his bridges with some of the Stoke hierarchy), Berahaino will be driving himself to any club that will have him…

Ireland new contract, Johnson off?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , on December 15, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Stephen Ireland is set to sign a six month contract taking him to the end of the season. It is believed to be on reduced terms and follows on from his current six month deal which expires in January.

Berahino has apparently met with the Stoke board to discuss his future who have told him he won’t be offered out on loan in January. He has yet to score for us in the league since signing in January. Glen Johnson looks set to leave in January despite signing a one year contract extension in the summer.

West Ham at home this Saturday and if we lose could it be Hughes’s last game in charge? Looks as though both Hughes and Coates don’t see any need to panic, however a loss on Saturday and if the crowd turns then it could be taxi for Hughes after the game…

Crouch signs one year contract extension

Peter Crouch has signed a one year extension to his current contract taking him up to 2019 at the club. At 36 he still has a few years and goals in him and one of the best Stoke signings in recent years.

January we could see Charlie Adam and Glen Johnson shown the door, whilst Stephen Ireland, who’s current short term deal finishes in January, could also leave after being offered a reduced terms contract until next summer. Lets hope Johnson goes absolute waste signing him for another year as he is way past his best.

RIP – Dionatan Teixeira

Sad to read about the death of former Stoke City defender Dionatan Teixeira. He was only 25 years old and played twice for Stoke (plus a short loan spell at Fleetwood Town) after signing for the club in 2014. His contract was terminated with the club in January 2017. He then signed for Sheriff Tiraspol in February 2017.

Shawcross new deal, Bojan off

Transfer deadline day summer 2017 has been busy at Stoke with Ryan Shawcross signing a new four year contract. He’s been with the club ten years and a very pleased we are keeping him on for a further four years.

Meanwhile, fellow defender Philipp Wollscheid has had the remaining year of his contract cancelled by mutual consent allowing him to join FC Metz.

Bojan has joined Alaves on a season long loan, despite Mark Hughes praising him and welcoming him back earlier this summer after his last season long loan! He has never been at his best since his long lay off due to an injury.

Imbula has joined Toulouse on a season long loan and would be surprised if he ever dons a Stoke shirt again.

Kevin Wimmer signs

Kevin Wimmer has signed from Tottenham Hotspur in an £18m deal on a five year contract. Good signing and he will be competing for one of the three centre back places with Ryan Shawcross, Kurt Zuoma and Bruno Martins Indi. Although maybe Hughes is going to play one of them as a wing back?

Record signing flop Imbula could finally complete a loan move to Monaco before transfer deadline day this Thursday 31 August. Philipp Wollscheid could also be moved on.

Rodriguez joins on loan; Joselu leaves

JESÉ RODRIGUEZ has joined Stoke City on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Good signing, as although he has not had a great time at PSG he scored 18 goals in 94 appearances for Real Madrid.

Joselu has joined Newcastle Utd for a £5m fee. Despite bagging goals pre-season Joselu has never really seemed to be part of Mark Hughes’ plans. He joins Newcastle on a three year deal.
