Stoke City 3-1 Norwich

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , on January 14, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Good win last night against a 10 man Norwich after Gary O’Neill was sent off for a reckless tackle. An own goal plus goals from Walters and Joselu saw Stoke up to seventh in the table.

Injury wise Shaqiri is out for up to a fortnight and will miss this weekend’s Arsenal game.

Marko Arnautovic is apparently stalling on signing an extension to his existing contract which has 18 months left to run. Better news in that young prospect Ollie Shenton has signed a new contract up to 2020.

No transfer activity yet as we enter the halfway stage of the January transfer window. Peter Crouch is being linked with a move to QPR and Steve Sidwell could be Reading bound. Mark Hughes did hint at some transfer activity this month, however a lot will depend on availability of potential targets and moving on some out fringe players.

Cech to Arsenal, now Begovic to Chelsea?

As Peter Cech signs for Arsenal expect the Premier League goalkeeper merry-go-round to start off big time. Man Utd are after a keeper and of course now Chelsea will want a replacement which looks set to be Begovic. Some media reports say Chelsea have a £6m bid in which Stoke have rejected and are holding out for an £8m bid. Chelsea can play a waiting game as they know Begovic will want to come (again some media say he’s agreed a contract already) plus Stoke want to cash in on Begovic as he only has a year left on his contract. Mind you Aston Villa have made a bid for Begovic to, although to be fair that’s a non-starter.

Mark Hughes is set for talks with Steven N’Zonzi who could also leave this summer. We need to be careful as Begovic I think we could cope with losing as Jack Butland is an able replacement and Stoke have nearly always had good goalies the years I have been supporting them since 1974. However, if N’Zonzi and possibly Walters & Crouch go we could struggle certainly if we don’t get decent replacements in.

Stoke’s Player of the Season is Steven N’Zonzi, as well as the Player’s Player of the Year. Jon Walters was voted Player of the Season by the various Stoke City supporter’s groups. Marc Muniesa won Community Champion and Ollie Shenton was named Young Player of the Season. Special awards were given to Thomas Sorenson and Andy Wilkinson for their log service to the club, both leave at the end of this season.

Stoke travel to Wrexham on Wednesday 22nd July for a pre-season friendly. This joins the already announced Singapore trophy in July. This will consist of two semi-finals played on Wednesday July 15th, followed by a third place play-off and final played on Saturday July 18th. Stoke will join Arsenal, Everton and a Singapore Select Xl.

Stoke City 3-0 Tottenham

What a great team performance today and good to see Marc Muniesa back in defence, no coincidence our defence looked much better today? Plus we had Jack Butland in goal again. Goals from Charlie Adam (his fourth in six games), Steve N’Zonzi and Mama Diouf.

Up to ninth now, not sure we can make eighth spot though.

Arsenal 3-0 Stoke City, Assaidi away!

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , on January 12, 2015 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

No real surprise that we lost at Arsenal as we have not taken a point from Arsenal away in over twelve fixtures now. Not a great showing by us and let’s hope we get our away form back on track at Leicester City this weekend.

Winger Oussama Assaidi has had his season long loan with us terminated as he returned to Liverpool to complete a move to Middle East club Al-Ahli for £4.75m. This frees up a domestic loan spot for us (Victor Moses occupies the other one) and Man City’s Dzeko is one touted by the Sentinel today!

Rochdale in the Cup, Philipp Wollscheid signs

Stoke City face Rochdale away in the 4th round of the FA Cup. That is a tough tie and could be televised on the Monday night.

German defender Philipp Wollscheid has signed on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal in the summer. Looks like a good signing and could pose more of an aerial threat at setpieces and corners. May even make the bench for the Arsenal game.

Midfielder Jamie Ness has resigned with Crewe on loan for the rest of the season.

Stoke City 3-2 Arsenal and Wrexham in the FA Cup

Great win for us over Arsenal, a team who never seem to like playing at the Britannia 🙂 Goals from Peter Crouch, Bojan and Jon Walters secured three points and we even had a second Bojan goal disallowed. Next up Crystal Palace away, that will be a tough game, although Aston Villa recently beat them 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Good to see Huth come on at the end of the game too.

The FA Cup third round draw has been made today and we have non-league Wrexham at home. Good draw for them and not too far to travel. Really hope we get past this potential banana skin…
