Sidwell off to the seaside…

Midfielder Steve Sidwell has signed with Brighton on loan for the rest of the season. He has only made four appearances for us this season, mainly in cup games. Sidwell is a decent player, just never really had a full run in the side and he is way down the pecking order now. Like fellow lost boy Stephen Ireland, he doesn’t even make the bench now. Good luck!

Ryan Shawcross picked up an injury at the weekend and it looks like we will be without him for up to a month. A big blow, especially with two big cup games this week – Liverpool tonight and Crystal Palace away on Saturday. We have cover although Marc Wilson never fills you with confidence and Muniesa is coming back from injury. Geoff Cameron is still doubtful, so maybe a lat minute transfer dash for a loanee centre back this week?

Opening fixture of the new season is…Liverpool!

You couldn’t make it up as we start the 2016/17 Premier League season against Liverpool at home. Just in case you have forgotten we beat them 6-1 at home at the end of last season J Our first away fixture is Tottenham who we beat away in the same fixture last season. Our final away game is Crystal Palace and we finish the season with a home game against West Ham.

Opening day fixtures see Premiership newboys Bournemouth home to Aston Villa, their fans will like that one; Watford face a tricky trip to Everton and Norwich host Crystal Palace, not an easy fixture given how well Palace have done since Alan Pardew took over.

Brek Shea poised to join Orlando City

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , , on December 18, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Seems Brek Shea is set to join Orlando City on a permanent deal shortly. He has not really shown much for us and has just returned from a so-so loan spell at Birmingham City. Hopefully we can get shot of Maurice Edu who is currently on loan with MLS side Philadelphia Union. Quite possibly the worst signing by Pulis!

With the January transfer window soon not sure how much, if any, funds Mark Hughes will be given. Peter Crouch and Glen Whelan are both out of contract in the summer and could move in January if they are not offered or sign new deals. Whelan has already been linked to Swansea City and Crouch to Palace and QPR.

Stoke City 3-2 Arsenal and Wrexham in the FA Cup

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , on December 8, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Great win for us over Arsenal, a team who never seem to like playing at the Britannia 🙂 Goals from Peter Crouch, Bojan and Jon Walters secured three points and we even had a second Bojan goal disallowed. Next up Crystal Palace away, that will be a tough game, although Aston Villa recently beat them 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Good to see Huth come on at the end of the game too.

The FA Cup third round draw has been made today and we have non-league Wrexham at home. Good draw for them and not too far to travel. Really hope we get past this potential banana skin…

Hull City 1-1 Stoke City

Dire…that in a word sums up Stoke’s performance today. Wilson needs dropping pronto; need a little more grit to match the fancy play and Diouf I really hope he starts to show what made him so good at Hanover! Fair play to ten man Hull who battled like the Stoke of old and a late Shawcross equaliser meant we got our first point and goal of the new season.

Will we add another centre back ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline? Interestingly one rumour over Pulis leaving Crystal Palace was that he wanted a triple Stoke swoop on Crouch, Walter and Wilson which Palace wouldn’t authorise. On Wilson’s current form many Stoke fans would happily drive him down to south London…

Augdelo goes on loan and Jerome heading back???

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , on January 21, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Striker Juan Augdelo has joined FC Utrecht on loan with Stoke planning to appeal against his work permit being turned down in March.

Transfer rumour wise we have been linked with Monaco winger Emmanuel Riviere by ‘The Times’ with a £5m bid rumoured. Slightly less exciting is being linked with Aston Villa’s Alan Hutton again! Possibly seen as a replacement for Marc Wilson at centre back as we await the Huth’s full recovery. Finally, the Sentinel report that we could recall Cameron Jerome from his season long loan at Crystal Palace. Normally you can’t cancel season long loans, the only exception being if both clubs agree. Personally I think we should have never sent him on loan as Jerome is a cracking impact sub.

Crystal Pulis 1-0 Stoke City

We do look poor again with Wilson again managing to fluff up defensively to allow Crystal Palace to win. With former manager Tony Pulis in charge there looked to be only one result and fittingly a binary one at that.

We do look very poor in places and lacking that fight that a typical Pulis team has. I reckon four points maximum from our next six games which include Man City, Man Utd & Chelsea… We are in a relegation battle and we need players to show some pride and fight, not sure though many of them do at present.
