Stoke’s 25 man squad as it stands now plus Pugh to Blackpool!

The current 25 man squad as it stands is as follows:

GK: Butland, Haugaard, Given

D: Johnson, Bardsley, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Cameron, Wilson, Muniesa, Pieters, Teixiera

M: Allen, Whelan, Imbula, Adam, Afellay (injured Jan 17), Ireland (injured Feb 17)

S: Walters, Shaqiri, Bojan, Joselu, Crouch, Diouf, Arnautovic

With long-term injuries to Afellay and Ireland unlikely they will be named in the 25 man squad that lasts until January plus Teixiera will surely be moved on/left out. Possible new signings look set tom include a striker – Berahino is first choice target for the club – and possibly defensive cover for Shawcross. New signing Sobhi is under-21 so doesn’t count in the 25 man squad.

Peter Crouch has been linked with a move away again, this time with Swansea according to the Sun.

Rotherham United is now home to two former Stoke players, Danny Collins and Lewis Buxton. Meanwhile ‘The Beast’ aka Jon parkin has signed a one year deal with league Two side Newport County after leaving Forest Green Rovers.

Danny Pugh has a job on his hands after signing for Blackpool, a club beset by off the field problems. Pugh signed a one year deal after leaving Bury. Peter Odemwingie is still on trial with Hull City despite the departure of manager Steve Bruce last week. Hopefully he can get a contract there as be good to see him play in the Premier League still.

Former Stokies Woodgate & Hill released by their clubs

A few notable names from  the past have been released by their current clubs including Jonathan Woodgate leaving the newly promoted Middlesboro. Popular defender Clint Hill has been released by QPR after six years at the club. If Hill was a little younger (he’s noe 37), I am sure Pulis would be interested in signing him. At the same club Karl Henry looks set to be offered a new deal.

Danny Pugh is looking to extend his current stay at Bury. Carl Dickinson is currently out of contract at Port Vale and has been offered a new, lower waged deal.

Former striker Ricardo Fuller announced his retirement from football on May 16 after a short spell at Oldham.

The ever readable 4231 Stoke blog has a list of possible British born players Mark Hughes and his management  may be interested in. They include Nathan Redmond, John Ruddy and Michael Carrick (what an excellent free signing he’d be).

Blackburn 1-2 Stoke City

Two goals for Peter Crouch secured our fourth away win of the season as we played football – are you watching Talk Sport?

Transfer update:

Danny Pugh has signed for Leeds Utd on a two and a half year contract. A very versatile player and one that will be missed – good luck!

Meanwhile Jermaine Pennant has denied reports he is leaving Stoke and will see out the remaining 18 months of his current contract.

Blackburn’s Junior Holliet, who is out of contract this summer, is attracting interest from us and Spurs.

Everton’s Leighton Baines gets a mention on the Oatcake MB as a possible target.

Next up Gillingham away in the FA Cup third round

Stoke City 0-0 Aston Villa

It’s a point and that’s the highlight of a dire game 😦

No Fuller on the bench so only presume he’s being saved for the weekend game against Wigan?

Transfer rumours have both Pennant and Jerome supposedly wanting away but of more concrete fact is that Danny Pugh will sign for Leeds Utd where he has been on loan, provided the two clubs can do a deal. Danny Collins could be staying at Ipswich Town and if we are really lucky Bradford will take on Andrew Davies 🙂
