Bojan has joined German club Mainz on loan for the rest of the season. Good luck to him and he may be back at Stoke next season, although not sure he features much in Mark Hughes’ plans.

Injury wise Stephen Ireland, Jack Butland and Geoff Cameron are all due back by the end of February, whilst Jon Walters has no return date as yet from his knee injury/surgery.

My Players of the Season and Cameron signs a new contract

US international Geoff Cameron has signed a new contract until 2018 (his current deal was due to end in 2016). Good to see him stay and good as he can play in a variety of positions.

My Players of the Season:

Player of the Season: Steven N’Zonzi – been a real rock in our midfield this season and key player in the team. Need to get him signed to a new, longer term contract.

Signing of the Season: Bojan who may have been injured for a lot of the season sadly, but when he has played he has been quite simply amazing. Nimble footwork, trickery and a pleasure to watch in a Stoke top.

Young Player of the Season: Ollie Shenton he has been in the first team and looks a good prospect. We never seem to get that many home grown players through the Academy and hopefully Shenton will be the first of if not many, a least a handful!

Most Improved Player of the Season: Glen Whelan he is one of our longest serving players now Wilko and Sorenson are leaving this summer. He really has come on leaps and bounds this season, being a certain starter along with N’Zonzi at the heart of our midfield.

Palacios Award for Most Useless Player: Palacios! We have had many pants players at our club over the years but Palacios came with such high hopes. We were royally stitched up by Spurs paying £10m for him and Peter Crouch. Crouch has been a great signing, Palacios however leaves this summer on a free…

Stoke City 2-1 Swansea City

Begovic; Bardsley, Shawcross, Wilson, Pieters; Nzonzi, Adam, Diouf, Ireland, Moses; Crouch

Subs: Sorensen, Muniesa, Walters, Cameron, Sidwell, Assaidi, Bojan

A good win for us after a fairly lethargic first half performance which saw Shawcross give away a penalty for shirt tugging. To be fair he has been heading for a booking all season for this! Mind you other players in other teams do this week in, week out too. Charlie Adam got the equaliser from the penalty spot after Victor Moses was fouled in the box (Swansea manager Gary Monk accused Moses of diving after the match). Super Jon Walters bagged the winner and a deserved three points for us. Good to see Geoff Cameron in midfield in the second half and he had a great game.

Few injury concerns ahead of next week’s game away at Southampton including Moses, Arnie and Bardsley – hopefully Whelan will be back.

Man City 0-1 Stoke City

What a result! A storming individual goal by Mama Diouf who ran almost the whole length of the pitch before putting the ball into the net between Joe Hart’s legs. A good all round team performance and in particular Ryan Shawcross was immense at the back.

Begovic Shawcross Wilson Pieters Bardsley; Whelan; Walters (Odemwingie – Adam) N’Zonzi Moses (Muniesa); Diouf Crouch

Sad news in that Peter Odemwingie is out injured with a knee injury, possibly for up to nine months. Get well soon! Transfer deadline day today and looks like we may look to being in a replacement, possibly a loanee.

Two players possibly leaving today could be Wilson Palacios to Aston Villa on a season long loan and Geoff Cameron, who has interested a couple of clubs including Southampton.

Former player Graham Kavanagh has been sacked as manager of Carlisle Utd.

USA and Geoff Cameron win :)

Two more Stoke players in action yesterday. First up Peter Odemwingie came on as a sub for Nigeria in a dire nil nil draw against Iran. At least Odemwingie injected some pace into the proceedings and looks like both these teams won’t progress much further. Nigeria were very disappointing and full credit to Iran for gaining a point.

Geoff Cameron fared better though as the USA beat Ghana 2-1 in a much more entertaining match. He was even voted Man of the Match by Eurosport.

So into the second round of group games later today and we will see three Stoke players in action, although not Mr Palacios!

In Stoke news seems Robert Huth is aiming to be fit and ready for preseason and Mark Hughes wants to resolve any possible transfer requests Steven N’Zonzi may be harboring, again before preseason starts. Season ticket sales are at a record level topping 20,000 and I must admit I am more excited for next season than I was this time last year. Four decent signings already and hopefully we can shift a few fringe players out like Kightly, Palacios, Ness, Edu and Jerome.

Four teams I will be following in the World Cup…

As there is no Scotland in the World Cup finals (my dad’s to blame as he got me into the World Cup back in 1978 supporting Scotland) I will be following the fortunes of the four nations with Stoke City players in their ranks. First up Honduras who feature Wilson Palacios as their midfield general and you can’t really see them progressing past the group stage. Geoff Cameron will be in his midfield guise for the USA who again I can’t see getting much more than a draw out of their three group matches.

Better prospects with Nigeria though and the reinstated Peter Odemwingie, who was on fine form for us after signing in January. Nigeria have a tough group yet if they stay focussed could progress hopefully. Bosnia I fancy could sneak into the knock out stages and with Asmir Begovic between the sticks its vital for their fortunes he has a good World Cup!

Aston Villa 1-4 Stoke City

What an away win! Only our second so far this season and the first time we have scored four goals away from home in a game in the Premier League. Amazing how well we did as the bench was sparse with Brek Shea, whose Stoke future is for from assured having hardly impressed and young midfielder Charlie Ward making his debut in the first team.

Despite going down one nil early on we were 3-1 up by half-time thanks to goals from Peter Odemwingie (making it four goals now in nine games), Peter Crouch and Steve N’Zonzi. No wonder some Villa fans were booking their players at half-time! Geoff Cameron made it 4-1 just at the end of the game.

Cracking performance throughout the team and this with four first team regulars out either through injury or suspension, plus Stephen Ireland not being allowed to play against his old club.

Hull City at home next…come on Stoke!
