Shawcross new deal, Bojan off

Transfer deadline day summer 2017 has been busy at Stoke with Ryan Shawcross signing a new four year contract. He’s been with the club ten years and a very pleased we are keeping him on for a further four years.

Meanwhile, fellow defender Philipp Wollscheid has had the remaining year of his contract cancelled by mutual consent allowing him to join FC Metz.

Bojan has joined Alaves on a season long loan, despite Mark Hughes praising him and welcoming him back earlier this summer after his last season long loan! He has never been at his best since his long lay off due to an injury.

Imbula has joined Toulouse on a season long loan and would be surprised if he ever dons a Stoke shirt again.

Kevin Wimmer signs

Kevin Wimmer has signed from Tottenham Hotspur in an £18m deal on a five year contract. Good signing and he will be competing for one of the three centre back places with Ryan Shawcross, Kurt Zuoma and Bruno Martins Indi. Although maybe Hughes is going to play one of them as a wing back?

Record signing flop Imbula could finally complete a loan move to Monaco before transfer deadline day this Thursday 31 August. Philipp Wollscheid could also be moved on.

Arnie, Whelan off and Tonge up the Vale!

Marko Arnautovic looks set to complete his £24m move the West Ham either today or tomorrow. A great player for us on his day, although you do wonder if his off field moods upset the dressing room karma. He’s moving purely for money though as West Ham are hardly Real Madrid, one of a few clubs he’d said he would only ever leave Stoke for.

Also packing his bags is Glen Whelan who has joined Aston Villa in a deal worth up to £2m, with an initial fee of £1.25m. One of the players who helped us gain promotion to the Premiership and he has been a regular since he joined in 2008, making 338 league and cup appearances for Stoke. One of the better players I have seen at Stoke in recent years and wishing him well at Villa.

Imbula looks set to leave before the new season starts with Torino the latest club to express interest in signing him.

Question is how much of the incoming transfer fees will Mark Hughes be given to spend? Various reports are linking us with Man City’s Fabian Delph in a £10m deal, not a loan as originally thought.

Chelsea defender Kurt Zuoma is all but signed on a season long loan and has even been photographed in Stoke kit! The delay in announcing this deal is thought to be whilst he agrees a new contract at Chelsea.

Bruno Martins Indi could still be a Stoke player, although Porto are playing silly buggers it seems and Crystal Palace are interested in signing him as well.

Man Utd’s Ashley Young has also been heavily linked with a move to Stoke.

Former Stoke player Michael Tonge is currently a trialist at Port Vale. He was at Stoke for five years between 2008 and 2013, where he spent more time on loan than at Stoke. Never really made an impact and not one of Tony Pulis’s better signings. After two seasons at Stevenage he is after a new club and if he joins the Vale he will link up with fellow former Stoke player Danny Pugh.

Whelan update and Fabian Delph incoming?

Seems Derby County are not going to bid for Glen Whelan according to local press in Derby, which leaves Aston Villa in the driving seat should they match Stoke’s valuation. Looks as though Stoke will consider loaning Imbula next season as a permanent deal looks slim given there seems little interest in signing him permanently.

One possible new signing could be Man City’s midfielder Fabian Delph for around £12m. Newcastle are also being linked although it seems we are the more likely destination for the player.

Former Stokie John Eustace is in the running for the manager’s job at Oxford Utd.

Bournemouth 1-3 Stoke City

A great away win after three consecutive 3-0 defeats and no goals scored in the last four league games. Goals from Giannelli Imbula (his first for Stoke and only his second game fur us), Ibrahim Afellay and Joselu. We did however lose Muniesa and Glenn Johnson to injury with Teixeira on as a sub for Muniesa at HT. Hopefully with the international break a chance for the injured players to recover. We currently have three fit defenders after today’s game!

Great news in Bojan signing a new contract for another 4 1/2 years.

Imbula signs for Stoke in record deal

Stoke City broke their transfer record to sign midfielder Giannelli Imbula from Porto for a fee of £18.3m on a five-and-a-half-year contract.

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has left his loan spell early to join PSV. Shame as he was on the few appearances he managed to get. Really needed a decent run in the side though.

Stoke rejected a bid from Marseilles for  Peter Odemwingie and that club signed Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher on loan instead.

So one in and two out (Steve Sidwell left on loan for Brighton a week ago) in this January transfer window.

Better news on the injury front as Shawcross could be back for this weekend’s game against Everton, where Imbula will be eligible to play having signed too late for this evening’s game against Man Utd.
