Glen Johnson announced on TalkSport today that he had retired from football. He was released by Stoke in the summer and had been plagued by injuries since joining Stoke in 2015 on a free from Liverpool.

Robert Huth also announced his retirement from playing last week after he had been linked with a move to Derby County. He had been without a club since being released by Leicester City in the summer and did train with Stoke early in pre-season.

Ireland new contract, Johnson off?

Stephen Ireland is set to sign a six month contract taking him to the end of the season. It is believed to be on reduced terms and follows on from his current six month deal which expires in January.

Berahino has apparently met with the Stoke board to discuss his future who have told him he won’t be offered out on loan in January. He has yet to score for us in the league since signing in January. Glen Johnson looks set to leave in January despite signing a one year contract extension in the summer.

West Ham at home this Saturday and if we lose could it be Hughes’s last game in charge? Looks as though both Hughes and Coates don’t see any need to panic, however a loss on Saturday and if the crowd turns then it could be taxi for Hughes after the game…

Crouch signs one year contract extension

Peter Crouch has signed a one year extension to his current contract taking him up to 2019 at the club. At 36 he still has a few years and goals in him and one of the best Stoke signings in recent years.

January we could see Charlie Adam and Glen Johnson shown the door, whilst Stephen Ireland, who’s current short term deal finishes in January, could also leave after being offered a reduced terms contract until next summer. Lets hope Johnson goes absolute waste signing him for another year as he is way past his best.

Sunderland six pointer

Posted in Football, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , on October 13, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

A real six pointer this weekend as we take on Sunderland at home, the only team currently below us in the Premier League. We have a couple of injury doubts in Joe Allen and Glen Johnson, with Jack Butland due back early next month.

Sunderland could welcome back Victor Anechebe and of course they have Jermaine Defoe who always seems to have a good game against us! Plus we could see the battle of the yellow cards as Lee Catermole and Phil Bardsley, if he starts, vie to get booked first.

The game is a sell out and lest hope for our first league win of the season.

Souttar finds a suitor ;-)

Scotland youth international Harry Souttar is reportedly close to a move to Stoke City from Dundee Utd. Stoke have been after him for sometime and the local press in Dundee are reporting this transfer as being concluded by the end of this week. Another youngster (he’s 18) for the academy ranks along with recent new signing Ryan Sweeney.

Seems Jack Butland could face Man City on Saturday although Glen Johnson is not going to feature as he recovers from injury.

Injury update – Bardsley for Villa game?

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , on February 24, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Sadly looks like Glen Johnson’s injury will sideline him for several weeks, possibly the rest of the season. A real blow given his form for us this season. So on Saturday against Aston Villa looks like we will have Phil Bardsley at right back – start a sweepstake when he will be booked then!

Texiera looks set to start in the centre of defence as Muniesa and Cameron are still doubts for the weekend. Ryan Shawcross seems to be a week or so away from contention, be good to have him in contention for the Newcastle game.
