Jon Walters has left Stoke City to join Burnley in a deal worth up to £3m. He joined us in 2010 from Ipswich Town, making 271 appearances for Stoke and scored 62 goals.

Former player Pete Skapetis is currently having a trial at Slough Town. The Australian youth international joined us from QPR, however he was plagued by injury and left for Dover Athletic. Jermaine Pennant has join Hibs on a trial and scored! He was previously at Bury.

Pennant on the move again & Ben Smith’s book

Jermaine Pennant has signed for Singapore side Tampines Rovers. With Matthew Etherington at Stoke they formed a formidable partnership, however since then Pennant has never really shone.

Currently reading Ben Smith’s ‘Journeyman’, an interesting read about a journeyman footballer who started off in Arsenal’s youth set-up before drifting into lower/non-league football. Honestly written and a fascinating insight to the daily workings of a football club and their footballers, on and off the field. He ended up playing for amongst others Reading, Yeovil Town, Shrewsbury Town and Crawley Town.

Pennant signs for Wigan

Jermaine Pennant has joined Wigan for the rest of the season. Since leaving Stoke he hasn’t really settled at a club and was recently playing in the Indian Super League for FC Pune City.

Jamie Ness has been impressing on his loan spell at Crewe and he may well feature for Stoke next season, either that or we move him on in the summer! Personally I hope he gets a chance as he has the talent just not had the luck injury wise and regular football this season must be a big help and boost for him.

For Saturday’s game against Hull City we should see Ryan Shawcross back from injury although Erik Pieters could be doubtful.

Jermaine Pennant leaves the club

Another one through the exit door is Jermaine Pennant who has had his contract cancelled in a clause which allowed the club to review it in January.

He was superb in his first season but the past eighteen months he has been a shadow of his former self.

Good luck to him and on his day still one of the most accurate crossers in the game.

So far this window we have offloaded Edu and Pennant with Shea and Ness off on loan.

Stoke City 1-1 Everton

Jermaine Pennant’s rash tackle gave Everton a late penalty and equaliser. Sadly Pennant is a shadow of his Stoke heyday and it’s time to get rid.

Open game with Asaidi scoring again, he gets better and better. Sorensen went of at half time injured with a suspected Achilles injury. Jack Butland made an assured debut and very accurate goal kicking by him.

Next it’s the FA Cup third round against Leicester.

West Ham 0-1 Stoke City

Wow! An away win and it isn’t even September 🙂

Great goal from a freekick by Jermaine Pennant who will hopefully recapture the form he had when he first joined us. We certainly paly attacking football away from home under Mark Hughes and good to see players like Marc Wilson been given a freer role.  We appeared to have outplayed and outpassed West Ham a side who we previosuly a draw against was considered a good result.

Three wins in a week if you inlcude the 3-1 win over Walsall in the Capital One Cup second round game. Tranmere away next in that cup competition.

Mark Hughes first signing…Jermaine Pennant

Yes Jermaine Pennant, last seen playing for us last August, has signed a one year contract with the option of a second year.

Technically a new signing I guess as he was on the list of players officially released by Stoke.

Lets hope he shows his form of a couple of years ago.

No other new signings as yet, plenty of rumours though. Still no news on the backroom staff which should be confirmed this week.
