Tymon signs for Stoke :)

Eighteen year old left back Josh Tymon has signed from Hull City on a five year deal. The fee will go to a tribunal due to his age. Good signing of a highly rated youngster and in an area we don’t have great cover for.

Jon Walters is all but set to join Burnley in a deal of around £3m. He has been a great player for us and hopefully Mark Hughes has some sort of replacement lined-up. Mind you, given the fanfare Bojan has been given at coming back after his loan last season maybe we are looking at him as our new SJW?

Man City’s Fabian Delph could still be joining us on a loan, although hopefully he won’t seek advice from Wildred Bony after his disastrous loan with us last season!

The squad travel to Switzerland this weekend for the start of their pre-season friendlies and Philipp Wollscheid will be in the squad, despite spending most of last season away on loan. No news on Joselu who was linked to Malaga and unless he engineers a move, looks set to stay with the club for now.

Whelan wanted & Shaqiri off?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , on June 21, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Bar the signing of Darren Fletcher on a free from West Brom, it has been a quiet start to the summer transfer season for Stoke – although the transfer window doesn’t officially open until July 1.

Glen Whelan has had an offer from Aston Villa turned down by the club and now Derby County are interested in signing him. It does look as though come the new season he will be playing for a new club.

Shaqiri is being linked again with a move to Roma – hope he does stay a Stoke player next season. Imbula could be off to Nice on loan as Stoke look to offload our flop record signing. Joselu could be off to Malaga on a permanent move, another Hughes signing who failed to impress.

One former Stoke player we could see at the Bet365 stadium next season is Dean Whitehead, who has been offered a new contract by newly promoted Huddersfield Town, where he has been for the past two seasons.

Pre-season fixtures:
Monday July 10 Neuchâtel Xamax FCS (A) Uhrencup

Wednesday July 12 Berner Sport Club Young Boys (A) Uhrencup

Saturday July 15 Monaco (A)

Tuesday July 25 Sheffield United (A) 7.45pm

Saturday July 29 Bolton Wanderers (A) 3pm

Sunday July 30 Crewe Alexandra (A) 3pm

Berahino drugs claim

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , , on March 31, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Saido Berahino claims a spiked drink on a night our led to his recent drugs ban. He certainly didn’t enjoy his past couple of years at West Brom. Hopefully he will get on the score sheet this weekend away at Leicester.

Shaqiri look set to sit out the weekend again after picking up another knock whilst playing for Switzerland in the week. He could be another possible summer departure along with the likes of Bojan, Wolschied and Joselu.

One summer incoming transfer could be a season long loan of Chelsea starlet Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Sentinel reported this in January and now the ‘Daily Mail’ have picked up on a possible summer move.

Joselu off on loan

Joselu sealed a season long loan move to Deportivo just ahead of the transfer deadline last night. Signed last summer he has not made a big impact at Stoke and is now on his seventh club, averaging roughly one per season.

We have signed another promising youngster in left-sided defender Cameron McJannett from Luton Town.

Bruno Martins Indi Stoke bound?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , on August 31, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi looks set to join Stoke today on a season long loan, with an option to buy him next summer. If we sign the Dutch international expect Wollscheid to leave.

The ongoing Saido Berahino saga will reach a conclusion today with Stoke still hopeful of signing him if West Brom land their striker target. Of course West Brom’s current manager is the king of deadline day Tony Pulis. If not Berahino then Man City’s Wilfied Bony on loan could happen and pave the way for Joselu to leave.

There could even be a surprise signing (he said in hope!) as Mark Hughes and his management team do like to conduct transfers away from the spotlight as much as possible.

Stoke U23’s lost 1-0 to Bradford last night in the Checkatrade Trophy and senior players Charlie Adam and Marc Muniesa played a part.

Summer ins/outs:

Transfer deadline day looms for Stoke

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , on August 30, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Very quiet on the transfer front for us as the Oatcake MB goes into full Samaritans mode! It looks as though we are trying to offload Joselu, who has not even made a match day squad this season. He had been linked with a move to Deportivo la Coruna, however wages seem to have scuppered that deal. He may still yet go out on loan and a disappointing signing as he only joined us last summer and obviously does not feature in Mark Hughes’ plans.

Philipp Wollschied has been lined with a move back to Germany and he was back in his native Germany at the weekend – for treatment to an inner ear problem. Whether he was discussing a possible move as well remains to be seen. Unlikely to happen unless we sign a replacement, possibly two and that looks increasingly unlikely, plus we are short on defensive cover now Marc Wilson has left and Glen Johnson is still injured.

Saido Berahino may have gone on holiday but he is still being linked with a possible move to us or Crystal Palace (they are also in the race to sign Bony on loan).

Man Utd’s Phil Jones could still join on loan.

The transfer window closes tomorrow night at 11pm and I personally think we will get a centre back in on loan and that’s it. Not a great summer for our transfer dealings if that happens and hope we have enough cover for our injury prone team.

Tonight the under-21’s (or 23’s as the official fixture list has it) take on Bradford City away in the group stages of the English Football League Trophy (Checkatrade). Can’t see a massive attendance and ironic that the league one and two clubs can face fines for fielding too many youngsters, yet the Premier League and Championship clubs will be fielding academy sides. Attendances are expected to be very low at the games as many fans don’t agree with allowing the academy teams to take part in place of last season’s non-league sides.

Bournemouth 1-3 Stoke City

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , on February 13, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

A great away win after three consecutive 3-0 defeats and no goals scored in the last four league games. Goals from Giannelli Imbula (his first for Stoke and only his second game fur us), Ibrahim Afellay and Joselu. We did however lose Muniesa and Glenn Johnson to injury with Teixeira on as a sub for Muniesa at HT. Hopefully with the international break a chance for the injured players to recover. We currently have three fit defenders after today’s game!

Great news in Bojan signing a new contract for another 4 1/2 years.
