Archive for Kenwyne Jones

Transfer deadline day busy…

…for Crystal Palace (Pulis signed five players including Tom Ince and Joe Ledley who he targeted whilst at Stoke) , Fulham and Cardiff City, not so for us. We tried to land Sunderland’s Lee Catermole but looks as though a communication breakdown between both clubs scuppered the deal. Still not a bad window as we did strengthen with Peter Odemwingie replacing the want-away Kenwyne Jones, plus getting Stephen Ireland on a free was a good move given his form playing for us. Plus a little more deadwood shipped out in the shape of Maurice Edu and John Gudetti joined on loan, although he best stop moaning he’s is on the bench as next he’ll be in the U21 side!

Peter Odemwingie set to join with Kenwyne Jones going to Cardiff City

A striker swap as the club confirm that Peter Odemwingie has agreed to join the club from Cardiff City subject to a medical and personal terms. Going the other way is Kenwyne Jones after falling out of favour and he is out of contract in the summer.

Odemwingie famously drove to QPR whilst at West Brom thinking he was signing for them only to spend time in the club’s car park under the watchful eye of the media. In the summer he joined Cardiff turning down offers from Swansea and us. Better to have him on the bench I guess than  Jones who doesn’t show any interest of late.

Three out the door permanently this window and perhaps another striker to join? Seems to be another bargain window for us as we look to keep the cost of the squad down. Still we’ve shipped out some deadwood like Jones and Edu.

Edu leaves with Jones next?

Maurice Edu has signed for MLS club Philadelphia. No news on a fee but after two years at Stoke hopefully he can relaunch his career. Hardly played for us!

Kenwyne Jones could be involved in a straight swap deal with Cardiff City’s Peter Oedemwingie. Not sure on this but Jones needs to go as unlikely he will play for us again.

Stoke City 2-1 Leicester City FA Cup 3rd round

Stoke are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Kenwyne Jones started in place of Crouch with Jack Butland in goal again. Returning from his loan at Wigan Ryan Shotton was on the bench. Goals from Jones and Adam saw us safely through.

Few shocks in the 3rd round as Tony Pulis continued his magic over West Brom as his current side Crystal Palace knocked them out. Blackburn drew at home to Man City although it is unlikely they will win the replay!

The club have announced the new squad numbers and you can check them here

New signings Erik Peters gets the number three shirt with Marc Muniesa having the number five shirt and Brek Shea gets the number 11 shirt.

The players are back for pre-season trainign and are off to France on Wednesday until the weekend for a trainign camp. Only Kenwyne Jones and Brek Shea are misisng as they are playing the CONCAF Gold Cup for their respective national teams.

Rumours of departing players include Wilson Palacios to Hull City to rejoin his former manager Steve Bruce; Maurice Edu to make a permanent move to Turkey; Matthew Etherington to Millwall; Kenwyne Jones  to the Chinese league and Peter Crouch to Trabzonspor. Palacios and Edu seem the most likely this week.

Incoming? Possibly Jermaine Defoe from Spurs.

Genoa friendly

The August 10th friendly looks set to be Genoa and not Bologna as first rumoured.

Matthew Lund has signed a two year contract with Rochdale after being released by us this summer.

Latest player being linked to us is Danny Rose of Spurs who had a good season on loan at Sunderland.

Kenwyne Jones to Swansea City could be back on and Cameron Jerome to Crystal Palace possibly?

Swansea 3-1 Stoke City

Dire performance as we again seem content to sit back and defend which cost us again today. Our once redoubtable defence has now shipped seven goals in the past two Premier League games. Michael Owen bagged his first goal for us – and his 150th Premier League goal – as some consolation for an otherwise forgettable match for us.

Kenwyne Jones started on the bench and came on as a sub for possibly his last appearance in a Stoke shirt? Swansea have had a bid rejected so far.

Stoke have FC Dallas player Brek Shea over for a week’s trial with a view to  a permanent deal. He is only 22 and a left-sided utility player. Rumours are that a fee has already been agreed with the club.
