Paul Hart new assistant manager at Stoke City

Former Notts Forest and Portsmouth manager Paul Hart has been announced as assistant manager for Nathan Jones. Hart previously held the number 2 role when Nathan Jones was manager at Luton Town.

Leeds Utd at home tomorrow will be a very tough game after Tuesday’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town. If we keep the goals conceded down to five we’ll be doing well! Nathan Jones and his team have a massive rebuilding job ahead of them, not only in players confidence but also reshaping the squad and the defence which needs a major overhaul. Both Tyrese Campbell (so good to see him score on his full senior debut and his dad, former Everton and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell was suitably proud on Twitter) and Charlie Adam will be pushing for a start after being the only two players to emerge with any credit from Tuesday’s game.

Transfer rumours and Hamburg friendly

Stoke are in talks with Leeds Utd over Charlie Taylor according to Teamtalk and face competition from Liverpool. We are also interested in Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and we have bid for Axel Witsel according to a couple of online reports.

Former loanee Victor Moses has been released by West Ham. Unlikely to end up with us plus he does have reoccurring injury problems.

There is unlikely to be much business until after Euro 2016, although Mark Hughes is always keen to get new signings in sooner, rather than later to allow them time to gell with their new teammates.

Stoke play Hamburg on Saturday August 6. It is a 4 pm kick-off local time.

Steven N’Zonzi to Sevilla

Looks a done deal if N’Zonzi can agree terms with Sevilla who have had a £7m bid accepted by Stoke City. He will be a tough act to replace and I hope we don’t lose any more key players, bar Begovic who we always knew would be set to leave this summer.

Steve Sidwell has been linked with a possible move to Leeds Utd. He has never really made much impression since signing on a free last summer, despite playing well at most of his previous clubs.

Possible incoming players could include Glen Johnson released by Liverpool (who paid Portsmouth over £17m to sign him!) and former Aston Villa keeper Shay Given, although Middlesboro are confident of signing him.

Assaidi crocked and Butland off on loan again

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , on February 20, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

OUSSAMA Assaidi has been ruled out of Stoke City’s trip to Manchester City after suffering knee ligament damage on a training camp in Dubai.

That’s a blow and a half as he injects some much needed pace into the side. Depending on the seriousness of the injury we may not see him again until April.
Better news with Matthew Etherington and Andy Wilkinson both expected to make the squad for Saturday.
Jack Butland is likely to join Leeds Utd on loan next week.

Tonge away!

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , on September 14, 2012 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Michael Tonge has joined Leeds Utd on loan for three months, where he hooks-up again with Neil Warnock who was his manager at Sheff Utd. No great loss to be honest and with a year left on his contract doubt we will see him play for Stoke again.

Big day tomorrow as we may see Michael Owen make his stoke debut against Man City. He will surely be on the bench as he can’t be ‘Pulis fit’ especially with no proper pre-season. Be interesting to see how we line-up tomorrow. I’ll will go for:

Cameron Shawcross Huth Wilson

Pennant Adam (or maybe Whitehead starting if Pulis thinks Adam needs a rest after international duty) Whelan Kightly

Crouch Walters

Subs: Sorenson, Owen, Edu,  Jerome, Whitehead, Wilkinson, N’Zonzi

Blackburn 1-2 Stoke City

Two goals for Peter Crouch secured our fourth away win of the season as we played football – are you watching Talk Sport?

Transfer update:

Danny Pugh has signed for Leeds Utd on a two and a half year contract. A very versatile player and one that will be missed – good luck!

Meanwhile Jermaine Pennant has denied reports he is leaving Stoke and will see out the remaining 18 months of his current contract.

Blackburn’s Junior Holliet, who is out of contract this summer, is attracting interest from us and Spurs.

Everton’s Leighton Baines gets a mention on the Oatcake MB as a possible target.

Next up Gillingham away in the FA Cup third round
