Berahino drugs claim

Saido Berahino claims a spiked drink on a night our led to his recent drugs ban. He certainly didn’t enjoy his past couple of years at West Brom. Hopefully he will get on the score sheet this weekend away at Leicester.

Shaqiri look set to sit out the weekend again after picking up another knock whilst playing for Switzerland in the week. He could be another possible summer departure along with the likes of Bojan, Wolschied and Joselu.

One summer incoming transfer could be a season long loan of Chelsea starlet Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Sentinel reported this in January and now the ‘Daily Mail’ have picked up on a possible summer move.

Farewell Huth – the Berlin Wall

Sad to see a modern day Stoke legend Robert Huth leave the club and join Leicester City on a three year deal. He had been at Leicester on loan since January and had proved a real hit with the fans.

He made 188 appearances for Stoke since joining from Middlesbrough back in 2009. He formed a truly immense partnership in central defence with Ryan Shawcross under the reign of Tony Pulis. He was injured for much of the last season until Christmas time and hasn’t really played much since Mark Hughes became manager.

Good luck Mr Huth, wished he could have played on for another year for us

Farewell Palacios!

Stoke City have announced their retained list and the the first team players leaving are Thomas Sorensen, Wilson Palacios and Andy Wilkinson. Andy Wilkinson has been at the club since 2001, one of our longest serving players of recent times.

Peter Odemwingie is retained by the club although a new contract has yet to be announced. He has been injured for much of the season, although hopefully he will be offered at least a one year contract.

Transfer rumours are linking us with all sorts of players including Barcelona’s Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay and Konoplianka.

Outgoing looks as though Robert Huth will complete a £3m transfer to Leicester City possibly next week. Peter Crouch is being linked with West Brom and former Stoke boss Tony Pulis. That could well happen, although long term Pulis target Carlton Cole has just been released by West Ham.

Philipp Wollscheid signs :-)

Stoke City have taken up the option to buy Philipp Wollscheid from Bayer Leverkusen following his loan spell since January. He has signed a three year contract and officially joins the club on July 1st when the transfer window opens again. His signing looks to further Huth’s exit to Leicester City in the summer.

Another possible signing, more for the under-21 squad, is 18 year old Blackpool striker Dom Telford. No confirmation of the deal and it has been reported on Goal.Com

Transfer deadline day January 2015

So far we have only brought one player in, Philipp Wollscheid, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen.

With the transfer window closing at 11pm Monday 2nd February we have been linked with Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon again, although Hull City and Everton are also keen. Mark Hughes dismissed any new signings yesterday, although he would hardly say outright as he is a canny one like Pulis in the transfer market.

Robert Huth is all set to join Leicester City on loan for the rest of the season, a good move for both. Ryan Shotton and Edu have both left permanently which reduces the wage bill. No news on Brek Shea leaving though and no bugger seems to want Palacios!

Arsenal 3-0 Stoke City, Assaidi away!

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , on January 12, 2015 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

No real surprise that we lost at Arsenal as we have not taken a point from Arsenal away in over twelve fixtures now. Not a great showing by us and let’s hope we get our away form back on track at Leicester City this weekend.

Winger Oussama Assaidi has had his season long loan with us terminated as he returned to Liverpool to complete a move to Middle East club Al-Ahli for £4.75m. This frees up a domestic loan spot for us (Victor Moses occupies the other one) and Man City’s Dzeko is one touted by the Sentinel today!

Stoke 0-1 Leicester City

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , on September 13, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Begovic, Bardsley, Pieters (Muniesa), Shawcross, Wilson, Whelan, Nzonzi, Moses, Bojan (Diouf), Walters (Assaidi), Crouch
Subs not used: Sorensen, Huth, Arnautovic, Adam

Lots of shots from us, albeit not many on target and plenty of pressure from our play. Fair play to Leicester as their tactics won them a precious three points and we are pointless at home now after two games. Needed Adam on the pitch to try a few chances from long range and hopefully Diouf will be fully rested in time to start next game. We really need pace and accurate shots, as elsewhere we are looking okay for this early in the season. Onwards and upwards!
