More injury woes for Stoke

Ibrahim Afelley looks set to be out longer than first thought and should be back in training within the next three months, he is back in January at present. Diouf is a possible miss from Saturday’s home game against Spurs and Shaqiri is likely to miss the game as well. However, Glen Johnson could be back in contention for the weekend’s game.

Rodgers

What a fantastic result and end to the current season 🙂

The goalscorers were Mama Diouf (2), Jon Walters, Charlie Adam, Peter Crouch and Steven N’Zonzi.

Some interesting records broken today:

Steven Gerrard has never lost a Premier League game by more than four goals.

Stoke are the first team to score five goals vs Liverpool in a league game since Coventry in December 1992.

This is Liverpool’s heaviest defeat since the 1950’s.

Stoke last scored more than five goals in a league game back in 1982.

Peter Crouch, with his goal today, became the leading all time scorer from headers in the Premier League.

Stoke’s highest ever win in the Premiership.

* Stoke City will play Brentford in a pre-season friendly on Saturday July 25th.

Stoke City 3-0 Tottenham

What a great team performance today and good to see Marc Muniesa back in defence, no coincidence our defence looked much better today? Plus we had Jack Butland in goal again. Goals from Charlie Adam (his fourth in six games), Steve N’Zonzi and Mama Diouf.

Up to ninth now, not sure we can make eighth spot though.

Sunderland 3-1 Stoke City

Poor defensively again and Charlie Adam got our goal which did even the game out for awhile at 1-1. Really need to get back to a Pulis like defence and stop these lapses of concentration which cost us there and at QPR away. Could see Huth back in place of Wilson if Huth is fit enough.

Worrying the amount of injuries we pick up under Mark Hughes though with Victor Moses off injured and really hope he is back, along with Diouf before our next game. Also in the physio room currently are Geoff Cameron and a long term injury to Peter Odemwingie.

Swansea next at home after the international break and that is a fixture we must get at the very least a draw from.

Stoke City 1-0 Newcastle

Begovic; Bardsley, Shawcross, Wilson, Muniesa; Whelan, N’Zonzi, Diouf (Arnautovic), Adam (Ireland), Moses (Assaidi); Crouch

Subs: Pieters, Huth, Bojan Krkic, Sørensen

Good to get our first home win and points of the season as Crouch headed home thanks to a Moses cross fifteen minutes into the first half. The pace of Moses, Diouf (who went off injured early on) and Arnautovic caused Newcastle lots of problems, plus they linked up well with Crouch, something he praised in his post-match interview. Muniesa was impressive again at left back and Moses has proved to be a real asset so far this season.

Not so great for Alan Pardew who was barracked by the away supporters, some of whom held up Sackpardew.com posters, a sign of the modern age using the internet to get rid of your manager!

Next up Sunderland away which will be a harder game than the recent Capitol One Cup win up there last week. Diouf has been called into the Senegal squad for this game in mid-October against Tunisia. Hopefully his injury won’t see him out of action for too long.

QPR 2-2 Stoke City

Two points dropped or a valuable away point? Leading 2-1 a late QPR equaliser knocked the wind out of Stoke who played some decent football again. Great to see Diouf on the score sheet again and Crouch got the second goal.

Begovic, Bardsley, Pieters, Shawcross, Wilson, Whelan, Nzonzi, Adam (Sidwell), Moses (Arnautovic), Diouf, Crouch Subs: Sorensen, Huth, Muniesa, Assaidi, Bojan

Next up Sunderland away in the Carling Cup and then Newcastle at home, who chances are will have dispensed with the services of Alan Pardew and we all know we never do well against manger less teams…

Man City 0-1 Stoke City

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership, Transfer rumours with tags , , , , , , on September 1, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

What a result! A storming individual goal by Mama Diouf who ran almost the whole length of the pitch before putting the ball into the net between Joe Hart’s legs. A good all round team performance and in particular Ryan Shawcross was immense at the back.

Begovic Shawcross Wilson Pieters Bardsley; Whelan; Walters (Odemwingie – Adam) N’Zonzi Moses (Muniesa); Diouf Crouch

Sad news in that Peter Odemwingie is out injured with a knee injury, possibly for up to nine months. Get well soon! Transfer deadline day today and looks like we may look to being in a replacement, possibly a loanee.

Two players possibly leaving today could be Wilson Palacios to Aston Villa on a season long loan and Geoff Cameron, who has interested a couple of clubs including Southampton.

Former player Graham Kavanagh has been sacked as manager of Carlisle Utd.
