Tymon signs for Stoke :)

Eighteen year old left back Josh Tymon has signed from Hull City on a five year deal. The fee will go to a tribunal due to his age. Good signing of a highly rated youngster and in an area we don’t have great cover for.

Jon Walters is all but set to join Burnley in a deal of around £3m. He has been a great player for us and hopefully Mark Hughes has some sort of replacement lined-up. Mind you, given the fanfare Bojan has been given at coming back after his loan last season maybe we are looking at him as our new SJW?

Man City’s Fabian Delph could still be joining us on a loan, although hopefully he won’t seek advice from Wildred Bony after his disastrous loan with us last season!

The squad travel to Switzerland this weekend for the start of their pre-season friendlies and Philipp Wollscheid will be in the squad, despite spending most of last season away on loan. No news on Joselu who was linked to Malaga and unless he engineers a move, looks set to stay with the club for now.

Whelan update and Fabian Delph incoming?

Seems Derby County are not going to bid for Glen Whelan according to local press in Derby, which leaves Aston Villa in the driving seat should they match Stoke’s valuation. Looks as though Stoke will consider loaning Imbula next season as a permanent deal looks slim given there seems little interest in signing him permanently.

One possible new signing could be Man City’s midfielder Fabian Delph for around £12m. Newcastle are also being linked although it seems we are the more likely destination for the player.

Former Stokie John Eustace is in the running for the manager’s job at Oxford Utd.

Unhappy Bony

Wilfred Bony has said in the local press today he wonders why he joined Stoke City. To be fair, based on his performances since joining us on a season long loan form Man City, the majority of Stoke fans are wondering exactly the same! He was superb at Swansea, however he has not really clicked at either Man City or with us. With the signing of Berahino he is not even making the bench at the moment and safe to say we won’t be signing him in the summer.

Better news with Ibrahim Afellay signing an extension to his contract which was due to run out in the summer. Should be a busy summer with a number of players out of contract, including Stephen Ireland and Shay Given, neither of whom look likely to be offered new deals.

Bony and Grant sign on loan

Stoke City have pulled off a couple of impressive loan signings with Derby County keeper Lee Grant joining on loan until January 3 and Man City striker Wilfried Bony joining on a season long loan. Bony proved a massive hit with Swansea City before joining Man City in January 2015. He scored an impressive 26 goals for Swansea in 54 Premier League appearances.

He’s happy to be here:

Britannia no more…Bet 365

Posted in Football, News, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , on April 21, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Stoke City have announced that the Britannia stadium will now be renamed as the bet365 Stadium from the start of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

It is an initial six-year stadium naming rights agreement with the club’s owners bet365, who have also extended their shirt sponsorship of the Potters for a further three years. But maybe of more interest to fans the club are finally ‘filling in’ the corner between the DPD and Marston’s Pedigree Stands. Hurrah! Mind you what will some fans moan about now on the Oatcake message board?

This will add an extra 1,800 seats and increase the capacity to 30,000. The work will be completed in time for the start of the 2017/18 season.

Stoke City Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “As supporters are no doubt aware the Britannia brand no longer exists and it was important that we attracted a new stadium naming rights partner.

The Premier League is watched around the world and bet365 are a truly global company. We are delighted that we have been able to reach an agreement with them over the stadium naming rights for an initial six year period, along with the extension of their shirt sponsorship agreement.”

John Coates, Joint Group Chief Executive of bet365 and Vice-Chairman of Stoke City, said: “bet365 have been pleased with the global brand exposure from our sports sponsorship agreement and we are always looking at ways to increase this. Entering into a stadium naming rights agreement with Stoke City seemed a natural fit, especially as the city of Stoke-on-Trent is home to bet365’s corporate headquarters.

We are delighted about the plans to fill in the corner of the stadium and are looking forward to what we hope will be a successful future for both the Club and bet365 with both organisations continuing to work closely together.”

Injury news Shaqiri is out of Saturday’s game against Man City, however Super Johnny Walters looks set to be available.

Arsenal 3-0 Stoke City, Assaidi away!

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , on January 12, 2015 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

No real surprise that we lost at Arsenal as we have not taken a point from Arsenal away in over twelve fixtures now. Not a great showing by us and let’s hope we get our away form back on track at Leicester City this weekend.

Winger Oussama Assaidi has had his season long loan with us terminated as he returned to Liverpool to complete a move to Middle East club Al-Ahli for £4.75m. This frees up a domestic loan spot for us (Victor Moses occupies the other one) and Man City’s Dzeko is one touted by the Sentinel today!

Man City 0-1 Stoke City

What a result! A storming individual goal by Mama Diouf who ran almost the whole length of the pitch before putting the ball into the net between Joe Hart’s legs. A good all round team performance and in particular Ryan Shawcross was immense at the back.

Begovic Shawcross Wilson Pieters Bardsley; Whelan; Walters (Odemwingie – Adam) N’Zonzi Moses (Muniesa); Diouf Crouch

Sad news in that Peter Odemwingie is out injured with a knee injury, possibly for up to nine months. Get well soon! Transfer deadline day today and looks like we may look to being in a replacement, possibly a loanee.

Two players possibly leaving today could be Wilson Palacios to Aston Villa on a season long loan and Geoff Cameron, who has interested a couple of clubs including Southampton.

Former player Graham Kavanagh has been sacked as manager of Carlisle Utd.
