Muniesa completes Girona move

Marc Muniesa has made last season’s loan move permanent signing a three year contract with Girona. He was a technically adept defender, hindered by a few injuries and a hit with the fans. He will be missed and good luck at Girona!

Reports in the media today that goalkeeper Lee Grant could be off to Man Utd as their third choice goalie. Good move for him if it comes off, although we’d need another keeper especially as Jack Butland could still leave this summer.

Pretty easy stroll through round 2 of the Football League Cup. Peter Crouch scored a hat trick with Phil Bardsley getting the other goal.

No transfer news of note with Man Utd defender Phil Jones looking unlikely to join us.

Stoke City 2-0 Man Utd & Pieters signs

What a great result today against a Man Utd side who really are struggling under the rigid tactics of their manager. Bojan opened the scoring from an assist from Glen Johnson, with Marko Arnautovic getting the second. Everton away next which will be a good game I am sure.

Erik Pieters has signed a contract extension until 2020. He has become a firm fan favorite and all we need now is Marko Arnautovic to sign a new contract. I am sure we can persuade him to stay on for another couple of seasons.

January transfer window could see a few fringe players leave like Steve Sidwell, Peter Crouch who must be hankering after first team football, Stephen Ireland (what has happened with him?) and possibly , although any move for him would be hampered by his recent injury.

Goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard signs for Stoke

Posted in Football, football transfers, News, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , on May 28, 2015 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard has joined Stoke from newly-crowned Danish champions FC Midtjylland for a fee of around £600K, on a three year contract. He will be third choice keeper behind Begovic and Butland, as Sorenson has now retired. Although Begovic has been heavily linked with a move to Man Utd as they are waving goodbye to their current no.1 de Gea.

It does look as though with this signing the club are preparing for Begovic’s departure and if so, do we sign a veteran keeper as cover for a season whilst Haugaard settles in?

Summer Ins/Outs:

In:
Jakob Haugaard (GK) £600k

Philipp Wollscheid (D) nomimal fee

Out:
Thomas Sorenson
(GK) retired

Andy Wilkinson (D) released

Victor Moses (M) end of loan period

Hernandez to Stoke in the summer?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , on March 9, 2015 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Man Utd striker Javier Hernandez is rumoured with a move to us in the summer after he has failed to really gel at Man Utd or on his recent loan spell. Unlikely signing but who knows as Mark Hughes does get some cracking players in! Senegal centre back Papy Djilobodji is also linked with a summer move to Stoke as it looks increasingly likely Huth will be on the move this summer.

Possible summer departures could include Andy Wilkinson, Thomas Sorenson & Wilson Palacios who are all out of contract. Peter Odemwingie is also out of contract although if he proves his fitness over the summer I am sure the club will offer him a one/two year contract.

Liverpool 1-0 Stoke City

We did well, bossing the game in the first half before Liverpool started coming back into the game in the second half and grabbed the points with a late winner. We deserved at least a point. Much more worrying was another injured player, this time Steve Sidwell. No timescale as yet to when he will be back and Glen Whelan also picked up a knock after subbing Sidwell! With Man Utd on Tuesday night looks like seventeen year old Ollie Shenton, who just signed a full professional contract, could possibly start in that game. He was on the subs bench for the Liverpool game.

Diouf and Teixeira sign for Stoke

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , on June 11, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Chuffin’ ‘eck mother four new signings and it’s not even mid-June yet! Stoke have today revealed a double signing of striker Mame Biram Diouf on a free transfer from FC Hanover and Brazilian born but now on a Slovakian passport Dionatan Teixeira. Diouf looks a very exciting signing, despite not excelling during his time at Man Utd he’s be a top striker during his time at Hanover. His arrival could pave the way for Peter Crouch to join either Crystal Pulis or QPR, especially as he has just one year left on his contract and the club may be willing to get some of his £10m fee back. Teixeira is a relative unknown but if he settles like Muniesta has we could have a natural replacement for Huth who has yet to fully recover from his long term knee injury.

Another footballing blog worth a look is this one Me and My Football WorldIt is written by the son of a former work colleague, both Liverpool supporters hey someone has to be 😉
