Edu away! Huth next? Crouch and Odemwingie new contracts?

Finally! We get shot of Maurice Edu who has signed a permanent deal with Philadelphia Union. One of the worst Pulis signings that’s for sure.

Robert Huth has been made available for loan and a possible permanent move. End of an era and a Stoke legend of recent years with his defensive partnership with Ryan Shawcross.

Peter Crouch looks set to be offered a new two year deal as he is out of contract this summer. Peter Odemwingie has also hinted that he would be happy to extend his current contract which also expires in the summer.

Transfer deadline day busy…

…for Crystal Palace (Pulis signed five players including Tom Ince and Joe Ledley who he targeted whilst at Stoke) , Fulham and Cardiff City, not so for us. We tried to land Sunderland’s Lee Catermole but looks as though a communication breakdown between both clubs scuppered the deal. Still not a bad window as we did strengthen with Peter Odemwingie replacing the want-away Kenwyne Jones, plus getting Stephen Ireland on a free was a good move given his form playing for us. Plus a little more deadwood shipped out in the shape of Maurice Edu and John Gudetti joined on loan, although he best stop moaning he’s is on the bench as next he’ll be in the U21 side!

Edu leaves with Jones next?

Maurice Edu has signed for MLS club Philadelphia. No news on a fee but after two years at Stoke hopefully he can relaunch his career. Hardly played for us!

Kenwyne Jones could be involved in a straight swap deal with Cardiff City’s Peter Oedemwingie. Not sure on this but Jones needs to go as unlikely he will play for us again.

Squad numbers announced

The club have announced the new squad numbers and you can check them here

New signings Erik Peters gets the number three shirt with Marc Muniesa having the number five shirt and Brek Shea gets the number 11 shirt.

The players are back for pre-season trainign and are off to France on Wednesday until the weekend for a trainign camp. Only Kenwyne Jones and Brek Shea are misisng as they are playing the CONCAF Gold Cup for their respective national teams.

Rumours of departing players include Wilson Palacios to Hull City to rejoin his former manager Steve Bruce; Maurice Edu to make a permanent move to Turkey; Matthew Etherington to Millwall; Kenwyne Jones  to the Chinese league and Peter Crouch to Trabzonspor. Palacios and Edu seem the most likely this week.

Incoming? Possibly Jermaine Defoe from Spurs.

Bye bye Edu

Maurice Edu has left Stoke today to join Bursapor on loan for the rest of the season. US international Edu joined us in the summer as a free transfer from Rangers but has only made one subs appearance.

Swansea have had a £3m bid for Kenwyne Jones turned down as they seem set to lose Danny Graham to Sunderland (a player we have been rumoured to be interested in).

No firm links to incoming players to Stoke although with Edu of the books we have at least one free space in the 25 man squad.

Jermaine Pennant is back at the club after a loan spell at Wolves. Tony Pulis says he will sit down with Pennant to discuss what happens next. Big Mama is also due back off loan at Sheff Wed, although he may go back on loan with them for the rest of the season.

Andy Wilkinson is a doubt for Saturday’s game at Swansea, otherwise no new injury concerns although the weather may have a say!

Stoke City 0-0 Arsenal

A goaless draw enlivened with Stoke fans doing the Wenger, although Mr Wenger preferred to keep his hands in his pockets most of the time for fear of Stoke fans! Good debut by Geoff Cameron and Michael Kightly made his home debut. Not a great game and we definitely need another striker in before deadline day.

Jamies Ness didn’t make the bench but he should feature in the League Cup against Swindon Town. Hopefully Maurice Edu will feature as well once his work permit has been sorted (mind you going on our recent success in these take nothing for granted!).

No real new names as possible signings but I am still sure Pulis will pull off one of his curveball signings that no-one had seen coming.

Welcome Edu and expect a flurry of transfer activity next week?

Maurice Edu of Rangers has signed for us subject to work permit. He’s done well at Rangers although as usual the Fantasy Football Stoke fans are bemoaning his signing before the lad has kicked a ball for us. Welcome Edu and hope you do well for us!

Also they moan over transfers but they take time and in the case of Tom Huddlestone we have to make sure the club don’t get shafted if he got injured. Look at Aston Villa last season with Jermaine Jenas, he was injured went back to Spurs but Villa still had to pay his wages. The Huddlestone loan deal could still happen next week though.

Who else in next week? I think Michael Owen looks more likely although as  a free agent he doesn’t have to sign by deadline day next Friday August 31st. Defoe could be one but unlikely I’d have thought but as we know with Pulis he pulls a few surprises like Crouch last season and Cameron Jerome, although he may be off?
