Stoke City 1-0 Newcastle

Begovic; Bardsley, Shawcross, Wilson, Muniesa; Whelan, N’Zonzi, Diouf (Arnautovic), Adam (Ireland), Moses (Assaidi); Crouch

Subs: Pieters, Huth, Bojan Krkic, Sørensen

Good to get our first home win and points of the season as Crouch headed home thanks to a Moses cross fifteen minutes into the first half. The pace of Moses, Diouf (who went off injured early on) and Arnautovic caused Newcastle lots of problems, plus they linked up well with Crouch, something he praised in his post-match interview. Muniesa was impressive again at left back and Moses has proved to be a real asset so far this season.

Not so great for Alan Pardew who was barracked by the away supporters, some of whom held up Sackpardew.com posters, a sign of the modern age using the internet to get rid of your manager!

Next up Sunderland away which will be a harder game than the recent Capitol One Cup win up there last week. Diouf has been called into the Senegal squad for this game in mid-October against Tunisia. Hopefully his injury won’t see him out of action for too long.

This was a match based around one man the referee Martin Atkinson best not say what I think on here, save to say his sending off of Glen Whelan and Marc Wilson turned the game on its head. Oh and he sent Mark Hughes to the stands for good measure too!

Big ask to bounce back before another local festive season game, err a trip to Spurs. More bad news as goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is out 5-6 weeks with a broken finger. Luckily we have Thomas Sorenson who will have to be on his best form and maybe a chance to start with Jack Butland?

The January transfer window will be key as we need a striker as a minimum and possiblly a few loan signings for injury cover. We seem to have had a lot more injured players this season than the previous ones in the Premiership.

Late Stoke fightback as we went 1-0 down but goals from Jon Walters and Cameron Jerome saw Stoke seal three points and drop Newcastle right in the doo doo. Attacking substitutions by Pulis saw Cameron Jerome and Michael Kightly come on, who along with Kenwyne Jones sealed a win.

Peter Crouch will miss the West Brom game due to losing three teeth and Kenwyne Jones looks set to start in his place. Both Michael Owen and Andy Wilkinson are available again after injury and it will mean Cameron Jerome starts on the bench again, possibly alongside Owen.

The club have terminated Diego Arismendi’s contract by mutual consent. Never really played much for us and the last time we let Dave Kemp go scouting in South America…

Oh dear…we looked woeful and thank goodness we have the points on the board as judging by our last few performances we look like a relegation side. Why do we keep playing Walters? Give him a rest and try Fuller or Jones.

With as many as ten players leaving in the summer we need some quality signings. I can’t see more than four or five new arrivals in the summer as we need to trim the squad size. Fuller sadly seems to be leaving and moves are afoot to try and get Huth to extend his contract as he only has a year left on his current contract. Danny Higginbotham is back from his loan at Notts Forest and with a year left on his contract could move on in the summer as well.

Out of contract in the summer:

Carlo Nash, Andrew Davies, Tom Soares, Danny Collins, Salif Diao, Jonathan Woogate, Lewis Moult, Ricardo Fuller, Big Mama
