Saido Berahino and Nathan Redmond Stoke bound?

John Percy over at the ‘Daily Telegraph’ has an interesting story on the possibility of West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Norwich’s Nathan Redmond joining Stoke this summer. Apparently manager Mark Hughes is after more British based players and these two seemingly top the wishlist.

The same article also mentions the club want to tie Ryan Shawcross to a longer contract – he currently has two years left on his current deal.

Outgoing…
Steve Sidwell is open to a permanent move to Brighton following a loan spell since January.

Defender Dionatan Teixeira has joined our sister club Orlando City SC on a week-long trial. He has not really had a run of games at the club and mixed reviews when he has played for us. Hopefully he can get a loan move sorted as he needs to be getting regular football now.

Stoke City 3-1 Norwich

Good win last night against a 10 man Norwich after Gary O’Neill was sent off for a reckless tackle. An own goal plus goals from Walters and Joselu saw Stoke up to seventh in the table.

Injury wise Shaqiri is out for up to a fortnight and will miss this weekend’s Arsenal game.

Marko Arnautovic is apparently stalling on signing an extension to his existing contract which has 18 months left to run. Better news in that young prospect Ollie Shenton has signed a new contract up to 2020.

No transfer activity yet as we enter the halfway stage of the January transfer window. Peter Crouch is being linked with a move to QPR and Steve Sidwell could be Reading bound. Mark Hughes did hint at some transfer activity this month, however a lot will depend on availability of potential targets and moving on some out fringe players.

Stoke-City

Opening fixture of the new season is…Liverpool!

You couldn’t make it up as we start the 2016/17 Premier League season against Liverpool at home. Just in case you have forgotten we beat them 6-1 at home at the end of last season J Our first away fixture is Tottenham who we beat away in the same fixture last season. Our final away game is Crystal Palace and we finish the season with a home game against West Ham.

Opening day fixtures see Premiership newboys Bournemouth home to Aston Villa, their fans will like that one; Watford face a tricky trip to Everton and Norwich host Crystal Palace, not an easy fixture given how well Palace have done since Alan Pardew took over.

Cameron Jerome joins Norwich

Cameron Jerome has joined Norwich for a fee of around £1.5m. A decent fee for a player who was a good impact sub for us, but never seemed to play well when he started a game. Good luck to him there and he did score a few key goals for us, although being left behind this preseason it was pretty obvious Mark Hughes had no place for him in the 25 man squad.

Next out of the door possibly either Brek Shea (MLS bound?) and Ryan Shotton (the club have turned down a loan move to Derby as they want a permanent deal).

Norwich 1-1 Stoke City

A good away point after going 1-0 down in the second half Jon Walters scored another penalty before shortly after getting red carded, his first ever in his career apparently. So next game against West Ham we will have no Charlie Adam or Walters now, coupled with Assaidi still out injured for the foreseeable future. Maybe a start for John Gudietti?

Confirmation too from the club that Stephen Ireland is only signed until the end of this season. Be interesting to see if we offer him a new contract  or not.

Norwich 1-0 Stoke City

Not a great performance and with QPR next at home you do wonder how we will get on… We need to get two wingers on the pitch and drop Walters or go good old 4-4-2 as we need to score. Charlie Adam I am sure will come good but having a five man midfield is not helping us at the moment.

Stoke 0-0 Sunderland

This game had draw written all over it given both teams are the cuurent PL draw specialists. The biggest blow though was losing Marc Wilson with a broken leg. He will be out until at least January and here’s hoping he is back sooner as he has been a key player for us. Andy Wilkinson is likely to deputise in Wilson’s absence and we are looking for a left back in the January transfer window – one area we failed to reinforce over the summer.

Norwich wil be a tough away game especially as they beat Tottenham  in the League Cup. We could see Matthew Etherington start after some impressive appearances as a sub although I can’t see Pulis dropping Walters.

This week also marks ten years since Tony Pulis first arrived at Stoke, a move that ddin’t please many of us fans at the time. But ten years on and in his second spell I’d say he was the best manager I’ve seen at Stoke since I started supporting them back in the mid-70’s. In Pulis we trust 🙂
