Arsenal 3-0 Stoke City, Assaidi away!

No real surprise that we lost at Arsenal as we have not taken a point from Arsenal away in over twelve fixtures now. Not a great showing by us and let’s hope we get our away form back on track at Leicester City this weekend.

Winger Oussama Assaidi has had his season long loan with us terminated as he returned to Liverpool to complete a move to Middle East club Al-Ahli for ÂŁ4.75m. This frees up a domestic loan spot for us (Victor Moses occupies the other one) and Man City’s Dzeko is one touted by the Sentinel today!

Bojan Krkic joins Stoke

Spanish international striker Bojan Krkic has joined Stoke City from Barcelona on four-year deal. What a great deal! Yes he may have lost his way but we like a player like that at Stoke. He joins his new team mates at the German training camp this week.

Now wonder if we will sign Assaidi? It did look a done deal but the latest rumours seem to suggest a stalling point has been over wages. One things for sure I think we will see a few departures, along with Wilson Palacios and Cameron Jerome, I’d say Charlie Adam, Ryan Shotton and Jamie Ness could all leave.

Stoke City 4-1 Fulham and Matty’s farewell

Bit of a romp really as the Hughes players led the attack today as Peter Crouch started on the bench. Odemwingie made it 1-0 at half time, then came goals in the second half from Arnautovic, Assaidi and Super Jonny Walters. Sadly the result meant Fulham were relegated after thirteen years in the top flight. Cardiff were also relegated, which was a better piece of news 🙂

The game also marked the final appearance of Matty Etherington who leaves the club in the summer. He came on as a sub and got a standing ovation from the fans and rightly so. A great player for the club and good luck to him in the future.

Any excuse to wheel out our 5-0 FA Cup semi-final demolition of Bolton with Etherington scoring the first goal>

Ivica Olic Stoke bound?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , on April 3, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Blimey, what’s this Stoke looking to sign a player for next season even before this season has ended? Croatian striker Ivica Ollic has been over to the club for talks with Mark Hughes on Monday. The player is out of contract at Wolfsburg in the summer who only offered the 34 year old a one year deal as opposed to Stoke’s proposed two year deal. If he signs all our forward line will be over 30!

Meanwhile of our two current loanees, it looks like John Guidetti is unlikely to join us as he looks set to a move to Holland, whilst Oussama Assaidi may yet still play this season. He also seems open to signing for the club permanently from Liverpool if such a chance arose.

Early bird season ticket sales are up 50% on last year a sign that fans are taking to Mark Hughes and his style of play.

Former player and currently at Oxford Utd, Dave Kitson aka the Ginger Ninja, has joined Teamtalk as a columnist. Kitson is also heavily rumoured to be the Secret Footballer, who penned a column for ‘The Guardian’ and has had two books published so far.

Assaidi crocked and Butland off on loan again

Posted in Football, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , on February 20, 2014 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

OUSSAMA Assaidi has been ruled out of Stoke City’s trip to Manchester City after suffering knee ligament damage on a training camp in Dubai.

That’s a blow and a half as he injects some much needed pace into the side. Depending on the seriousness of the injury we may not see him again until April.
Better news with Matthew Etherington and Andy Wilkinson both expected to make the squad for Saturday.
Jack Butland is likely to join Leeds Utd on loan next week.

Stoke City 2-1 Crystal Palace

After trailing 1-0 at half-time and not playing that well, Stoke came back with two quick goals early on in the second half from Ryan Shawcross and Charlie Adam to give us our first win and points of the new season. Good confidence boost to Mark Hughes as well who always has the media referring back to his unsuccessful tenure at QPR.

Walsall next in the Capital One Cup second round tomorrow night and a chance for the fringe/younger players to get a run out. Walsall will be a tough opponent though as they have hardly lost this year and beat Port Vale in the first round.

Looks like Liverpool midfielder Oussama Assaidi will be signing on a season long loan today. Mixed reviews on him from Liverpool fans but he is quick paced and just what we need as we are lacking decent pace in the side at the moment. We are still being linked with plenty of strikers including West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie and Man City’s John Guidetti, neither of whom set the old pulses racing on first glance. The summer transfer window closes at 5pm next Monday September 2nd so expect a busy week and of the players leaving Cameron Jerome to possibly Reading is looking increasingly likely.
