Former Stokies Woodgate & Hill released by their clubs

A few notable names from  the past have been released by their current clubs including Jonathan Woodgate leaving the newly promoted Middlesboro. Popular defender Clint Hill has been released by QPR after six years at the club. If Hill was a little younger (he’s noe 37), I am sure Pulis would be interested in signing him. At the same club Karl Henry looks set to be offered a new deal.

Danny Pugh is looking to extend his current stay at Bury. Carl Dickinson is currently out of contract at Port Vale and has been offered a new, lower waged deal.

Former striker Ricardo Fuller announced his retirement from football on May 16 after a short spell at Oldham.

The ever readable 4231 Stoke blog has a list of possible British born players Mark Hughes and his management  may be interested in. They include Nathan Redmond, John Ruddy and Michael Carrick (what an excellent free signing he’d be).

Wilko testimonial and Butland injured

First the band news, Jack Butland is out for three months with ankle ligament damage after coming off in the England friendly against Germany. A big blow to us and Butland who would have been in England’s Euro 2016 finals squad.

Andy Wilkinson has been given a testimonial game by the club after recently retiring due to a head injury. It takes place at the Britannia Stadium on Monday 16th May at 7pm. The list of ex-Stoke players lined-up is rather good including Mark Stein, Rory Delap, Ricardo Fuller, Abdoulaye Faye, Karl Henry, John Eustace, Peter Odemwingie, Carlo Nash, Salif Diao, Andy Griffin (no bitch slapping with Fuller please!), Steve Simeonson, Carl Dickinson, Danny Higginbotham, Mama Sidibe, James Beattie, Dean Whitehad (the return of the ‘What minute in the match will Deano be booked?’ sweepstake) and Matty Etherington.

That is some line-up and wonder if Tony Pulis will be involved, maybe managing one of the teams? Or Nello?

German friendlies update…

Stoke lost to 1860 Munich, although Mark Hughes was not overly worried as the German side had played more games and Stoke fielded two different starting line-ups for each half. Slight concern as Andy Wilkinson went off injured in the first half.

Elsewhere Peter Crouch has again been playing down transfer speculation as he is linked with former managers now at Crystal Palace and QPR. I think he will stay and see out the final year of his contract with Cameron Jerome the striker the club want to offload this summer.

Stoke legend Ricardo Fuller has left Blackpool (who currently only have nine players on their books and no goalkeeper!) to join Millwall.

Fuller, Edu & Huddlestone

Ricardo Fuller has signed for Charlton after being released by Stoke. One of the best players I have seen play for  us and good luck to him.

Spurs Tom Huddlestone could join us on a season long loan, a good signing if it comes off. Not so good would be Maurice Edu from Rangers. Err no thanks…

The Goran Popov deal could be back on as he has a Bulgarian passport and would need a work permit.

Michael Owen saga rumbles on, seems him signing for Everton were good old Twitter rumours. Could be a deadline day signing? Mind you as he is a free agent he can sign for a club at any time.

Kenwyne Jones is linekd again with Aston Villa. Seems he will leave as he doesn’t seem to feature in Pulis’s plans.

Fuller, Diao, Davies, Soares and Moult all leave the club

The legend that is Ricardo Fuller heads the list of players leaving the club on frees. A true Stoke legend and it has been a delight to see him weave his magic on the pitch. He has had his off moments including the ‘bitch slap’ on Andy Griffin at West Ham and on his few games this season seems to have lost some of his magic. But he has been superb for us and at his peak unplayable and a menace to opposition defenders.

Also off is Salif Diao, never a massive hit with some fans but he was top draw in the Europa League games this season and when called upon does a decent shift. Plus who can we run a sweepstake on now as to when he would get a yellow card?

Tom Soares has been on loan at Hibs and may well head north of the border for a new club. Lewis Moult hasn’t really done that much first team wise and Andrew Davies is already with a new club, having signed a year’s contract with Bradford where he was on loan last season.

Davies to Bradford and Fuller next?

Andrew Davies has signed a one year contract with Bradford City, where he had been on loan. Davies joined from Southampton in our first season on the Premiership but has hardly played for us and seemed to be one of the bulk squad buys we made upon promotion a la Soares and Tonge.

Another out of contract player Ricardo Fuller is supposedly in talks with Ipswich Town as he has been rumoured to have only been offered a one year deal by Stoke.

Danny Higginbotham in today’s Sentinel states he wants to play more in his remaining year of his contract and if this doesn’t happen this may mean a move away from Stoke. Would depend a lot on the futures of Woodgate, Danny Collins and Matthew Upson plus any new players coming into the club over the summer.

Chelsea 1 – 0 Stoke City

If only Ricardo Fuller had not been sent off for a reckless stamping we may have got something out of this match…Tony Pulis was none too impressed either and Fuller looks set to have a fine. No news on whether we will offer him a new contract but the Daily Mirror is reporting we are set to offer a one year extension to Rory Delap’s current contract.

Sad to see P*** V*** enter into administration because if football is a circus then we will always need some clowns 😉
