Bojan has joined German club Mainz on loan for the rest of the season. Good luck to him and he may be back at Stoke next season, although not sure he features much in Mark Hughes’ plans.

Injury wise Stephen Ireland, Jack Butland and Geoff Cameron are all due back by the end of February, whilst Jon Walters has no return date as yet from his knee injury/surgery.

Stoke City 2-0 Man Utd & Pieters signs

What a great result today against a Man Utd side who really are struggling under the rigid tactics of their manager. Bojan opened the scoring from an assist from Glen Johnson, with Marko Arnautovic getting the second. Everton away next which will be a good game I am sure.

Erik Pieters has signed a contract extension until 2020. He has become a firm fan favorite and all we need now is Marko Arnautovic to sign a new contract. I am sure we can persuade him to stay on for another couple of seasons.

January transfer window could see a few fringe players leave like Steve Sidwell, Peter Crouch who must be hankering after first team football, Stephen Ireland (what has happened with him?) and possibly , although any move for him would be hampered by his recent injury.

Stoke City 3-1 QPR

A Jon Walters hat trick, the first by any Stoke City player since we have been in the Premier League. It couldn’t happen to a better player, who always gives 100% on the pitch and is a model professional footballer. A proper Stoke legend and he has been a key player for us, along with Glen Whelan and Ryan Shawcross, as the team has progressed and evolved since the early days in the Premiership.

Rochdale 1-4 Stoke City FA Cup 4th Round

Good away win after an early wonder goal by Bojan, easily the most talented Stoke player I have seen in my lifetime as a Stoke supporter. Rumours of Liverpool interested in him, they can look elsewhere, Emile Heskey would be good for them 😉

The other goals came from Stephen Ireland, Victor Moses and Jon Walters. Next round is Blackburn away, a tough game and hopefully televised again.

Andy Wilkinson has returned from his loan spell at Millwall and Jamie Ness is back on loan at Crewe for the rest of the season.

Stoke City 3-1 Wrexham FA Cup 3rd round

At one nil down I did think ‘here we go again…’ losing to lower league teams. Luckily a late goal surge courtesy of Arnie and two from Stephen Ireland saved our blushes. Wrexham deserved a draw really although not complaining! Fourth round draw is on Monday 5th January.

Transfer wise we are set to sign German international and centre-half Philipp Wollscheid on loan until the end of the season. There would then be an option to sign on a permanent deal in the summer if he impresses and he gets a taste for oatcakes 😉 This could mean the end of Robert Huth’s time at Stoke though.

Elsewhere Wilson Palacios could join Brighton on loan and we are again linked to QPR’s Junior Hoilett. We were linked to him in the summer, mainly as Mark Hughes brought him over to the UK.

Republic of Ireland 7-0 Gibraltar

Oh dear, Gibraltar have yet to get off the score sheet in their debut European Championship qualifying campaign. Ireland were rampant with Robbie Keane bagging a hat trick. Next up Georgia, possibly a chance to score?

Elsewhere Iceland beat the Netherlands 2-0 to remain top of their group. Wales beat Cyprus 2-1 and Scotland beat Georgia 1-0, yeah!

Sunderland 1-2 Stoke City (Capitol One Cup R3)

Butland, Huth, Muniesa, Shawcross, Bardsley, N’Zonzi, Adam, Assaidi (Crouch), Ireland, Diouf, Arnautovic (Moses) Subs: Pieters, Sidwell, Bojan Krkic, Wilkinson, Sorensen

Great away win and especially as that’s our first away against Sunderland since way back in 1994. Two cracking goals by Marc Muniesa put us through as we dumped last year’s runner-ups out of the Capitol One Cup. Couple of outstanding saves by Jack Butland kept us in the game.

Good to see Stephen Ireland get some game time, although he looked knackered in the second half, whereas Arnautovic looked a shadow of his former self although hopefully like last season he will find his form. Bizarre how Arnie was subbed too with his theatrical injury just as a corner was about to be taken. Assaidi had some good runs down the wing too, although he looked tired by the middle of the second half with Crouch replacing him for the last ten minutes of the game.

Southampton at home next in the cup.

Newcastle next Monday at home in the league, let’s hope we can get a decent result as away from home we are now four games unbeaten this season!
