Sam Vokes signs for Stoke as Crouchie leaves for Burnley

Stoke City completed the signing of striker Sam Vokes on a three and a half years deal from Burnley. Going the other way was Peter Crouch, who has been at Stoke for six and a half years. A great ambassador for the club and hope he does well at Burnley.

Martina has been recalled by Everton – great news as he is one of worst players Ihave seen at Stoke in a long while and we have had some stinkers. Eric Pieters joined Amien on loan for the rest of the season and Tyrese Campbell has joined Shrewsbury Town on loan.

Afellay spent three-and-a-half years at Stoke, making 55 league and cup appearances and scoring three goals. However, in recent years he has been beset by injury problems. Full story here

Paul Hart new assistant manager at Stoke City

Former Notts Forest and Portsmouth manager Paul Hart has been announced as assistant manager for Nathan Jones. Hart previously held the number 2 role when Nathan Jones was manager at Luton Town.

Leeds Utd at home tomorrow will be a very tough game after Tuesday’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town. If we keep the goals conceded down to five we’ll be doing well! Nathan Jones and his team have a massive rebuilding job ahead of them, not only in players confidence but also reshaping the squad and the defence which needs a major overhaul. Both Tyrese Campbell (so good to see him score on his full senior debut and his dad, former Everton and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell was suitably proud on Twitter) and Charlie Adam will be pushing for a start after being the only two players to emerge with any credit from Tuesday’s game.

Match of the Week – Brentford v Stoke City

Posted in Championship, Football, Match of the Week, Stoke City, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , , on January 11, 2019 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

After last week’s lucky draw for Stoke away at Shrewsbury, Gary Rowett has been sacked and now we have a new manager Nathan Jones from Luton Town. He promises attacking football and has done well at Luton taking them up from League Two into current a play-off position in League One. Exciting and interesting times at Stoke for sure.

Brentford have drawn their last three games and have fallen away since their previous manager Dean Smith joined Aston Villa. Should be a good game, with Ryan Woods set to start against his old club and possibly a return to the squad for Bojan and Moritz Baeur? Tyrese Campbell must also be in with a shout of at least making the bench. Be interesting to see how the defence lines-up, with Martins Indi getting the nod ahead of Williams?

Nathan Jones named new Stoke City manager

Official club statement can be read here

He certainly faces a tough task with some under performing players and how he handles the likes of Moritz Baeur, who was made an outcast by previous manager Gary Rowett, and fan favorite Bojan. He has worked wonders at Luton Town though and here’s hoping he can help turn around our club’s fortunes.

A good statement of intent from him –
“I believe I am an appointment for the long-term here, I want to win games and I want to instil a culture and a philosophy that people are going to really get behind and be proud of.”
