After just eight months in charge Southampton have sacked Mark Hughes. His win percentage was even worse at Southampton than his time at Stoke

Match of the Week – Bromsgrove Sporting v Didcot Town

Last week’s match saw Fulham beat Southampton 3-2 as the Mark Hughes magic touch continues to work at Southampton 🙂

Stoke beat Derby County at home on Wednesday 2-1 despite Etebo being sent off in the first half. Goals from Clucus and Ince sealed the win for us. Reading away this Saturday afternoon, who despite their low placing in the table have only lost one of their last five home games.

Match of the week this week is Didcot Town who have now had four wins on the trot, including a late winner in a 4-3 win over Bedford Town on Tuesday night. That win move them up to fifth and into the play-off zone, when just over a fortnight again they were fourth from bottom, albeit with games in hand. Saturday sees the Diddy away at second placed Bromsgrove Sporting. They have yet to drop any points at home this season, so a very tough game for Didcot. They are a relatively new club having only formed in 2010, with an impressive average attendance of over750. Tough game for both teams and will go for 2-2.

Match of the Week – Fulham v Southampton

Posted in Football, Match of the Week, News, non league footnball, Stoke City FC with tags , , on November 23, 2018 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Gibraltar were soundly beaten 6-2 by Armenia to end any promotion hopes in the UEFA Nations League

Fulham have a new manger Claudio Ranieri who guided Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2015/16. Fulham are currently bottom of the Premier League, having lost five on the trot and face Southampton, managed by former Stoke boss Mark Hughes. They are just above the relegation places having picked up three draws in their last five games. I am going for a Fulham win 2-1 and hopefully they will hasten Mark Hughes getting the sack as he will ruin Southampton like he did at Stoke and QPR previously.

Stoke’s U21 game at Port Vale in the Checkatrade trophy will take place on December 4 at 7pm. Stoke have been allocated 4,000 tickets and despite the early kick off should see a decent sized crowd.

Stoke host QPR tomorrow, with QPR on a good run of form and Stoke need to find that goal scoring form again. Etebo looks set to miss out having got back only yesterday from international duty, whilst Tom Ince has only trained recently following an injury. Maybe we can start with Bojan?! Former player John Eustace is current assistant manager at QPR.

Didcot Town won 2-1 away at Barton Rovers midweek to lift them to eleventh in the table. Next game is at home to Kempston Rovers this Saturday.

Match of the Week – Met Police v Newport County FA Cup 1 st Round

Posted in FA Cup, Football, non league footnball, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , , on November 9, 2018 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Stoke drew 0-0 against Tony Pulis’s Middlesbrough, no real surprise there although Ryan Shawcross was recalled to the defence following an injury to Erik Pieters.

The FA Cup first round this weekend and I going for the Met Police FC v League 2 side Newport County.

From their Wiki page –

“Metropolitan Police FC are based in East Molesey, Surrey. Originally made up of players from the Metropolitan Police Service, the rule requiring players to be employees of the service was removed when the Commissioner refused to sanction time off for playing. However, the club is still part-funded by a police staff lottery. They are currently members of the Southern League Premier Division South and play at Imber Court, the base of the Met Police Sports and Social Club.”

The Met Police FC have won through four qualifying rounds to reach the first round proper, whilst Newport County reached the FA Cup fourth round for the first time since 1979 last season, losing to Tottenham in the replay.

Should be a good cup tie and I will go for a 2-1 win for Newport.

Match of the Week – Hartlepool Utd v Kidsgrove Athletic

Posted in FA Cup, Football, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , on October 19, 2018 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Start of a regular feature, choosing a match that is a bit different. This weekend Kidsgrove Athletic (average home attendance 134) face an away trip to Hartlepool United (average home attendance 3,301) in the fourth qualifying round of FA Cup. The winner gets a place in the first round proper – something Kidsgrove have never achieved to date.

Stoke fans will remember Hartlepool beating us 2-0 in the FA Cup third round back in 2009. Not one of our better years in the FA Cup!

Be great to see Kidsgrove progress, however I think Hartlepool’s higher league status (they are currently eighth in the Nation League) will see them win 3-1.

Imbula off on loan again

GIANNELLI IMBULA has today joined Spanish side Rayo Vallecano on a season-long loan. He still has three years of his contract left at Stoke.

Imbula has made 28 appearances since joining in January 2015.

Along with Wimmer we spent over £40m for two players who have been flops and amongst our worst signings.
