Muniesa off?

Posted in Football, Stoke City FC, The Premiership, Transfer rumours with tags , , , , , , , on January 9, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

After an FA Cup performance to forget the transfer rumour mill is in full swing with Real Betis supposedly interested in signing Marc Muniesa, who said last month he wants away to guarantee first team football.

Bojan is after a move and after Saturday’s first half performance he won’t have impressed any potential suitors!

One player on the move is goalkeeper Jakob Haugarrad who has joined Championship side Wigan on loan for the rest of the season. With the signing of Grant permanently and Butland due back from injury hopefully next moth he’s be fourth in pecking order of goalies.

Geoff Cameron is due back from injury next week which should help us out in the midfield area.

Sunderland six pointer

A real six pointer this weekend as we take on Sunderland at home, the only team currently below us in the Premier League. We have a couple of injury doubts in Joe Allen and Glen Johnson, with Jack Butland due back early next month.

Sunderland could welcome back Victor Anechebe and of course they have Jermaine Defoe who always seems to have a good game against us! Plus we could see the battle of the yellow cards as Lee Catermole and Phil Bardsley, if he starts, vie to get booked first.

The game is a sell out and lest hope for our first league win of the season.

Transfer deadline day looms for Stoke

Very quiet on the transfer front for us as the Oatcake MB goes into full Samaritans mode! It looks as though we are trying to offload Joselu, who has not even made a match day squad this season. He had been linked with a move to Deportivo la Coruna, however wages seem to have scuppered that deal. He may still yet go out on loan and a disappointing signing as he only joined us last summer and obviously does not feature in Mark Hughes’ plans.

Philipp Wollschied has been lined with a move back to Germany and he was back in his native Germany at the weekend – for treatment to an inner ear problem. Whether he was discussing a possible move as well remains to be seen. Unlikely to happen unless we sign a replacement, possibly two and that looks increasingly unlikely, plus we are short on defensive cover now Marc Wilson has left and Glen Johnson is still injured.

Saido Berahino may have gone on holiday but he is still being linked with a possible move to us or Crystal Palace (they are also in the race to sign Bony on loan).

Man Utd’s Phil Jones could still join on loan.

The transfer window closes tomorrow night at 11pm and I personally think we will get a centre back in on loan and that’s it. Not a great summer for our transfer dealings if that happens and hope we have enough cover for our injury prone team.

Tonight the under-21’s (or 23’s as the official fixture list has it) take on Bradford City away in the group stages of the English Football League Trophy (Checkatrade). Can’t see a massive attendance and ironic that the league one and two clubs can face fines for fielding too many youngsters, yet the Premier League and Championship clubs will be fielding academy sides. Attendances are expected to be very low at the games as many fans don’t agree with allowing the academy teams to take part in place of last season’s non-league sides.

This is a highly recommended read for fellow Stoke fans and an informed insight into our academy prospects.

Another season of football brings with it another year of hope. Hope that a youth player will finally break through into the first team. Competition heightens each year, as we’re now a Top 9 club and are expected to stay as such. The calibre of first teamer and the depth of squad fillers is stronger than […]

WHELAN and SOBHI

Glen Whelan has agreed a one year contract extension which sees him at the club now until the summer of 2018. Good to get him committed to the club as one of our longest serving players, and along with Walters a good character to have in your team on and off the field.

We are closing in on our first summer signing, rising Egyptian star Ramadan Sobhi. All subject to work permits which has scuppered a few of our signings in the past. Sign him now Mr Hughes!

Stoke start their 2016/17 Premier League campaign away at newly promoted Middlesboro and the last game of the season is away at Southampton. Full fixture list can be found here on the official website

Looks like Nathan Redmond is Southampton bound according to latest press reports. Latest link is with West Brom striker Saido Berahino, who is in the last year of his current deal and was courted by Spurs in January.
