Kevin Wimmer has signed from Tottenham Hotspur in an £18m deal on a five year contract. Good signing and he will be competing for one of the three centre back places with Ryan Shawcross, Kurt Zuoma and Bruno Martins Indi. Although maybe Hughes is going to play one of them as a wing back?

Record signing flop Imbula could finally complete a loan move to Monaco before transfer deadline day this Thursday 31 August. Philipp Wollscheid could also be moved on.

Opening fixture of the new season is…Liverpool!

You couldn’t make it up as we start the 2016/17 Premier League season against Liverpool at home. Just in case you have forgotten we beat them 6-1 at home at the end of last season J Our first away fixture is Tottenham who we beat away in the same fixture last season. Our final away game is Crystal Palace and we finish the season with a home game against West Ham.

Opening day fixtures see Premiership newboys Bournemouth home to Aston Villa, their fans will like that one; Watford face a tricky trip to Everton and Norwich host Crystal Palace, not an easy fixture given how well Palace have done since Alan Pardew took over.

What a great team performance today and good to see Marc Muniesa back in defence, no coincidence our defence looked much better today? Plus we had Jack Butland in goal again. Goals from Charlie Adam (his fourth in six games), Steve N’Zonzi and Mama Diouf.

Up to ninth now, not sure we can make eighth spot though.

Down to ten men after the second yellow card for Ryan Shawcross, we strived to get the elusive equaliser. Tottenham’s Danny Rose certainly won’t be welcomed back to the Britannia Stadium after his part in getting Shawcross red carded. Fair play to Tim Sherwood though who praised the Stoke fans and seems a decent manager, although unlikely to still be in charge at Spurs after the summer.

Marc Muniesa started at left back today, before switching to centre back when Shawcross was sent off and had an impressive game. A good signing by Mark Hughes.

Ivica Olic a possible summer signing has decided to extend his current contract and stay at Wolfsburg.

The Stoke away goals charity keeps on giving 😦

Spurs played well and we looked at sea at the back. Did think we’d lose today but only one nil as our goal difference has taken a battering.

Butland in goal next game please Mr Hughes and at least Wilson will be back.

Serious worries over injuries as Wilkinson and Pieters picked up knocks with Shawcross playing on through injury.

Everton at home next!

A cracking away point with Ryan Shawcross and Begovic commanding the defence. Kenwyne Jones started again and nearly scored in the opening minutes, before making way in the second half to Cameron Jerome. Good to see Ryan Shotton play well again and thoughts & best wishes go out to Charlie Adam who missed today’s game on compassionate grounds as his dad passed away this week.

Still no firm news on Shawcross signing a new contract but we need to get him signing ASAP

Stoke have overhauled the backroom staff with John Rudge leaving at the end of the season and Sam Ellis has left the club this week.

Michael Tonge, currently on loan at Leeds Utd has been hinting he’d like to sign permanently for Leeds as his contract is up at Stoke in the summer.  No news as yet on whether Jermaine Pennant will extend his loan at Wolves past January.

Nice goal from Cameron Jerome and we looked to be heading for a shock away win until Van der Vaart got the Spurs equaliser. We battled well tonight and Jerome plus Crouch proved a handful at times but wish Pulis would rest Walters as he picked up more knocks tonight and looks knackered. Also for the second game running we played more passing football – no sniggering you non-Stoke fans – even Palacios mucked in and he is not renowned for his passing ability.

Who next? Oh Man City at home with Carlos Tevez back…
