Berahino drugs claim

Saido Berahino claims a spiked drink on a night our led to his recent drugs ban. He certainly didn’t enjoy his past couple of years at West Brom. Hopefully he will get on the score sheet this weekend away at Leicester.

Shaqiri look set to sit out the weekend again after picking up another knock whilst playing for Switzerland in the week. He could be another possible summer departure along with the likes of Bojan, Wolschied and Joselu.

One summer incoming transfer could be a season long loan of Chelsea starlet Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Sentinel reported this in January and now the ‘Daily Mail’ have picked up on a possible summer move.

Berahino signs and two youngsters out on loan

Stoke City finally signed Saido Berahino from West Brom on a five and half year deal for at least £12m, rising to possibly £15m with add ons/clauses. Hopefully he can rediscover his goal scoring form of the 2014-15 season. His signing could see Bojan leave this week with Middlesboro the most likely destination still.

Two youngsters have gone on loan for the rest of the season…Ollie Shenton has joined Wrexham and Ryan Sweeney has gone to Bristol Rovers. Shenton was tipped to break into first team action after a couple of subs appearances in the 2014-15 season. This is the first loan period for Shenton which will hopefully develop his potential further. Sweeney joined us in the summer from AFC Wimbledon after impressing greatly during his time there.

Will it be Hughes? Or will it be Pulis?

The fixture computer certainly knows how to pick them as only six games into the new season and Stoke’s home game against West Brom this weekend is a real six pointer and it could see possibly both managers sacked. Mark Hughes is now the bookeis favorite to be the first Premiership manager to be sacked, taking over from previous favourite…West Brom’s Tony Pulis.

Bojan asks for the players to share the pain of defeat with Hughes and get believing in themselves again. It does appear that Hughes may have lost the dressing room as the old guard – the remaining Pulis era players- have yet to speak out about the current bad form and play, most notably the captain Ryan Shawcross, who should be leading the rallying calls for players and fans alike.

Something needs to change and quickly with -11 goal difference after only five games and in three of those games we have shipped four goals. Hughes Out is the cry on the Oatcake messageboard and I will give Hughes one more chance as we must win at home against West Brom. Hull at home in the League Cup before that and a chance to try some younger/fringe players with a bit more fire and steel in their play? Who to replace Hughes if he goes? Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe could do a good job, anyone but Steve McClaren 🙂

Ryan Sweeney signs from Wimbledon AFC

Stoke have signed the highly promising defender Ryan Sweeney from AFC Wimbledon for a fee of £250k. He’s only 19 and looks set for a role in the Academy set-up or possibly a loan move for the short term. Good signing on the basis of reports about him and hopefully he will make the first team in due course.

Ramadan Sobhi’s first day of training with us can be seen here. Lots of excitement over his signing, not only from us Stoke fans but his many fans in Egypt.

The ongoing saga of the possible signing of West Brom’s Saido Berahino looks to be in doubt again after West Brom completed a takeover by a Chinese businessman. However, he was previously at Blackburn and an admirer of Mark Hughes’s management so maybe this could help the transfer?

The rumour mill has Peter Crouch linked with a possible move to Wolves. Possible although if he does drop down a division clubs like Brighton may also be interested.

Stoke City transfer news

Weekend press reports have Stoke in pole position to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino. If true, he could sign this week ahead of the players returning for pre-season training next week. One target we won’t be signing is Norwich’s Nathan Redmond who signed for manager-less Southampton.

One player heavily linked with a move away is Charlie Adam who is wanted by newly promoted Burnley and a move that could appeal to Adam as he would be guaranteed more starts.

Saido Berahino and Nathan Redmond Stoke bound?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , , , , on May 20, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

John Percy over at the ‘Daily Telegraph’ has an interesting story on the possibility of West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Norwich’s Nathan Redmond joining Stoke this summer. Apparently manager Mark Hughes is after more British based players and these two seemingly top the wishlist.

The same article also mentions the club want to tie Ryan Shawcross to a longer contract – he currently has two years left on his current deal.

Outgoing…
Steve Sidwell is open to a permanent move to Brighton following a loan spell since January.

Defender Dionatan Teixeira has joined our sister club Orlando City SC on a week-long trial. He has not really had a run of games at the club and mixed reviews when he has played for us. Hopefully he can get a loan move sorted as he needs to be getting regular football now.

Wilson injury and late bid for Berahino?

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , on January 31, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

More injury woes for us with Marc Wilson out for three months, meaning we are running short of centre backs with Shawcross (due back in March) and the versatile Cameron both injured. Cameron could be back for the weekend though. Possibly a late loan bid for a centre back before deadline day tomorrow? Tottenham’s Federico Fazio possibly? That’s what the Sentinel think, although he could be on the way back to Spain.

As deadline day draws near we are of course being linked with lots of players, one of which is West Brom’s outcast Saido Berahino. Newcastle have had a bid of £21m rejected already and Sky say we are interested possibly in advanced talks, not so says the Sentinel.

Odemwingie could be on his way to a loan move with Marseille, although he was linked with Sunderland earlier in the week.
