Stoke City completed the signing of West Brom winger James McClean yesterday for a fee of £5m plus £1m add-ons. He will be a useful addition to the squad and a player manager Gary Rowett has tried to sign twice at his previous clubs.

Huddersfield’s Tom Ince is reported to be signing soon for a £10m transfer fee.

Goalkepper Jacob Haugaard has signed a new twelve month contract with the club.

Stoke City pre-season friendlies

Stoke City attend a training camp in Germany w/c 16 July with a mini-tournament on Saturday 21 July against SV Meppen and Hamburg. The players report back for pre-season training on 27 June.

Incomings could be Wolves striker Benik Afobe, who has only just signed permanently with Wolves following a loan spell from Bournemouth last season. Bizarrely he has only just signed for Wolves, however Wolves look set to make a couple of million profit as they paid Bournemouth £10m and we are rumoured to be bidding £12.5m.

Stoke have also had a £4m bid for West Brom midfielder James McLean rejected, although it is looking likely he will sign for either us or Cardiff as he has stated he wants to leave West Brom this summer.

Ramadan Sobhi has completed a medical ahead of a move to Huddersfield Town which is set to complete before he competes for Egypt in the World Cup.

Other confirmed friendlies are –

Wed 18 July VFL Bochum (A)

Sat 21 July SV Meppen v Stoke City/Hamburg v Stoke City – Hänsch-Arena

Wed 25 July Wolves (H)

Sat 28 July FC Pauli (A)

Wolves friendly and Wimmer leaves

Posted in Championship, Football, football transfers, Stoke City, Stoke City FC with tags , , , , on May 30, 2018 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Wolves home friendly announced for Wednesday 25 July. That could prove a feisty friendly given the history between the two clubs!

Kevin Wimmer has joined Bundesliga side Hannover 96 on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season with an option to buy him after the loan completes. Wimmer has made 19 appearances for Stoke since joining for £18m last summer. His last game was in January and when Paul Lambert took over as manager he deemed Wimmer unfit and set him on a fitness regime, as well as making him play for the U23 squad.

Incoming transfers no firm news yet, although a rumoured bid for West Brom’s James McLean has certainly stirred up the Stoke fans.

Darren Fletcher joins on a free transfer

Posted in Football, football transfers, The Premiership with tags , , , on June 2, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Stoke City have completed their first signing of the summer landing former West Brom captain Darren Fletcher on a free transfer. He has signed a two year contract with an option of a third year. A good signing on a free.

Berahino drugs claim

Posted in Football, football transfers, Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , , , , on March 31, 2017 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

Saido Berahino claims a spiked drink on a night our led to his recent drugs ban. He certainly didn’t enjoy his past couple of years at West Brom. Hopefully he will get on the score sheet this weekend away at Leicester.

Shaqiri look set to sit out the weekend again after picking up another knock whilst playing for Switzerland in the week. He could be another possible summer departure along with the likes of Bojan, Wolschied and Joselu.

One summer incoming transfer could be a season long loan of Chelsea starlet Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Sentinel reported this in January and now the ‘Daily Mail’ have picked up on a possible summer move.

Berahino signs and two youngsters out on loan

Stoke City finally signed Saido Berahino from West Brom on a five and half year deal for at least £12m, rising to possibly £15m with add ons/clauses. Hopefully he can rediscover his goal scoring form of the 2014-15 season. His signing could see Bojan leave this week with Middlesboro the most likely destination still.

Two youngsters have gone on loan for the rest of the season…Ollie Shenton has joined Wrexham and Ryan Sweeney has gone to Bristol Rovers. Shenton was tipped to break into first team action after a couple of subs appearances in the 2014-15 season. This is the first loan period for Shenton which will hopefully develop his potential further. Sweeney joined us in the summer from AFC Wimbledon after impressing greatly during his time there.

Will it be Hughes? Or will it be Pulis?

Posted in Stoke City FC, The Premiership with tags , , , , , on September 19, 2016 by The Rock 'N' Roll Oatcake

The fixture computer certainly knows how to pick them as only six games into the new season and Stoke’s home game against West Brom this weekend is a real six pointer and it could see possibly both managers sacked. Mark Hughes is now the bookeis favorite to be the first Premiership manager to be sacked, taking over from previous favourite…West Brom’s Tony Pulis.

Bojan asks for the players to share the pain of defeat with Hughes and get believing in themselves again. It does appear that Hughes may have lost the dressing room as the old guard – the remaining Pulis era players- have yet to speak out about the current bad form and play, most notably the captain Ryan Shawcross, who should be leading the rallying calls for players and fans alike.

Something needs to change and quickly with -11 goal difference after only five games and in three of those games we have shipped four goals. Hughes Out is the cry on the Oatcake messageboard and I will give Hughes one more chance as we must win at home against West Brom. Hull at home in the League Cup before that and a chance to try some younger/fringe players with a bit more fire and steel in their play? Who to replace Hughes if he goes? Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe could do a good job, anyone but Steve McClaren 🙂
